photo, or video?

My group has been debating whether or not to use a digital camera to take photos, or using my video camera and make videos.

I'd like some advice on what is better to use.

Some say video would be good for evidence showing that we weren't doing anything bad, just exploring. While the others say video is bad because it's evidence showing that we were trespassing.

It looks like we are most likely going to use video but I just want to know if it's a bad idea or not.

You're over thinking this, just use what ever you want (or nothing at all). I don't think there will be significant benefits or negatives to either option.

Also it's a lot harder to make HDR videos.

Nobody watches UE videos.

By which I mean, I don't watch UE videos. Well, occasionally I will, but it generally just reminds me not to watch UE videos.

One day, though, I'll probably buy a video camera, and start making UE videos.

Well it's really because none of us own a digital camera, which is why we're leaning more on using my video camera. Someone suggested buying disposables but we thought it would be spending money we don't have.

I tend not to watch UE videos because the majority of them are disappointing, boring, poorly shot, and fail to actually give a good sense of the size/scale/beauty of the location.

But once in a while, someone gets ahold of a steadycam and makes something wonderful... It would happen more often if more people did UE videos.

do both.
I think if you have some good photos and then a video embedded under them I'd be more likely to watch it rather than just a video.

Photos are great for an existing location.

Video is great for locations that have been (or may be) demolished. They provide a 360 degree POV of what it was to be there, and puts you behind the lens of the camera.
