hi im new and was looking for some useful hints/advice

Hi I am new to urban exploring; my buddy and I have done some research and have a location picked out. Today we went and looked at it and were trying to find best entry and so forth, I was hoping someone could give me some advice , like gear and what to do once inside. Thank you

...what to do once you're inside?! it's literally exactly like sex, if your intuition doesn't lead you and tell you what to do, you must not be very into it...

just be safe, don't be stupid and break shit. If you've already got an entry point and it's a good time of day, just go have fun! Take some pictures if you find interesting things, maybe.

We're all just trapped between the stippled earth and the stubbled sky.

oh ok, yeah we have a spot picked out and i made it clear we are there to explore..thats all, well and to take pictures. we are doing it at night because it's close to a main road, but the buildings are set back in the distance.

Go in, take pictures, explore the building...the concept is fairly simple.

now if you made it a situational question, you might get better answers
for example;
"What if theres a crackhead trying to murder me?"
"Help, i've fallen and i cant get up"
"There was a group of men in trenchcoats reciting something that sounded like a foreign language, and they are surrounding a naked girl what should i do?"
the answer to that last one is to stop watching dan brown movie adaptations.

We can help you out

You can just explore and enjoy the spot without a camera, but if you take pictures, buy a tripod.

Find what you really enjoy, be it buildings and rooftops, drains or trains, and explore that.

Buy lots of flashlights.

Meet fellow explorers in your area.

Don't take anything on the internetz too seriously. People just like to bust balls.

Don't fall into a hole and die.

Don't burn anything down.

Don't name names of spots.

Most of all, just have fun!

My advice is to bring gloves! You never know when you might have to crawl on the floor or climb up something that could be sharp.

Metal saws for cutting copper pipes and a truck to haul the copper pipes to a salvage yard. Also, pink spray paint for painting cartoon cocks.

Keep the flashlights trained on the floor and don't take flash photos where the flash can be seen from the road.

The first thing I like to do is secure all the doors and establish a stronghold. Remember, zombies are pretty strong, but they're not superhuman. Try to identify which room would be the best to make your stand in, ideally a large room with an outside door but no windows. Then, push some furniture around to barricade all the doors so they cannot be easily opened. Most places have an industrial nail gun and an air compressor around somewhere, as well as a copious supply of shotguns, ammo, and magic health kits. Feel free to use anything you find with little regard to the well-being of others.

Remember to leave one, and only one door accessible as an escape route, preferably one in your stronghold room. Poke around outside and get to know your escape route. Also try to find a source of fresh water- don't trust tap water or rivers, you never know if there is a dead zombie floating just upriver contaminating the water supply!

Don't waste time trying to find food, zombie flesh can be eaten if properly cooked to at least 600F and is delicious with some juniper and oregano. In a pinch, mix fiberglass insulation with coffee grounds and mustard, tastes like cotton candy. Spend the time you would have spent looking for food nailing up doors and saying prayers.

When the horde does inevitably find you, try to keep them outside as long as possible. Aim for the head, heart, knees or spine. Accuracy is king. Try to conserve your ammo and reload one at a time, the last thing you need is the horde to have a gap in the covering fire to rush you while all the members of your party are reloading. For more information on covering fire and proper reloading techniques, visit the NRA here. If the horde gets in through more than one entrance, it's time to retreat to your stronghold. Hold out as long as you can, and as soon as it's obvious you're about to be overrun, shot the most worthless member of your party in the knee and run like hell, the horde will tear apart your buddy while you skip off to safety.

Don't wear clothing that snags, like knitted sweaters. Always wear long sleeved shirts, but something that dries easily.

New tip that I found out the hard way: Make sure you can carry your gear in a way that keeps your hands free. You never know when you'll have to climb, stumble, or crawl. You don't want to drop/damage your camera/gear/phone/etc if you can strap them to your back. AnAppleSnail took me to some storm drains to show me the ropes and I was a major pain in the ass because I had to keep handing him my camera/tripod/etc to climb ladders and set up shots. Carry a pack (it needs to be small and un-bulky) or figure out a way to strap everything to your person.

Don't EVER carry contraband or paraphernalia. If you get busted with a camera and tripod, you're probably going to be all right. Carrying a pipe/bowl/baggie? You're fucked.

Flashlight. But a SMALL one! Maglites are great, but they are heavy and easy to sit down/forget/drop and sink to the bottom of a pool. Carry a couple of them if you can.

If your camera uses regular alkaline/AA batteries, carry spares. Otherwise, ALWAYS charge your battery for your camera before you leave. And don't forget your SD card!!

Let someone that you trust know what you're doing (within reason). If you were to happen upon an angry crackhead (who is angry that you don't have aforementioned bowl/baggie/etc) it's good to let them know that someone else knows where you are. Not to mention if the unthinkable happens... someone knows your last whereabouts in case you fall to your spiky death in an unstable building.

Eat beforehand, but bring something to use as TP. Also, be comfortable peeing in strange places.

Turn your phone on silent!

The end.

This.

And the only thing you need to take pics of are the abandoned toilets. That's really all anyone on here cares about.

Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door.

If you're wearing a baseball cap turn it around backwards so you don't walk into shit that you can't see above the bill on the cap.

Also if you get caught and you're carrying what can be interpreted as "burglary tools" (screwdriver, leatherman, pry bar), the situation can go from bad to a lot worse.

No love for the lonely chairs?

Take as many poorly-exposed, poorly-lit shots of single chairs as you can. People here go ga-ga for that sort of stuff.

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.
