death certificate of a 'negro'?! - Baton Rouge, LA (lots of pictures)

Earlier today my friend and i went out to explore a small house I pass by all the time on my way around town. Its right smack in the middle of a bunch of business and main roads, so I knew a day time exportation was in order but a covert one at that. We hit the first one and on our way back home, not 2secs out of the parking lot of the business we had park in I see a shitty old mail box and a closed driveway and I knew there was more fun. We parked again and went in for round two. Both houses were a little trashed - the first because of the elements and the second house by homeless. Dates on things in the first house went back to 1954 and nothing newer than the 80's. The second house was much larger, and in it I found a piece of mail from the 40's, along with a death certificate of a woman, who was born in 1917 and died in '67. There were several polaroid of young girls inside that very house as well, dated from 1990. Enjoy.

OK, these are pretty easily two of the most interesting abandoned houses, from a content standpoint, that I've EVER seen. Very interesting!

TV in 6 rocks...

Interesting place. Cool stuff. In #44 am I correct in perceiving that's a woman in a casket? Creepy. It seems to be in a scrap book. That woman's family would probably like having that. Oh well.

Nice find.

Thanks guys it was a lot of fun and a lot to look at. I glad you all find it as interesting as I did. I know there was a homeless man living on the bus I didn't see any signs of them living in the house. But he still miss the closet full of suits..he would be the flyest hobo in town. But thanks for the comments.

#39 is an Armatron. The arm was controlled with a wired remote. You could pick things up with it. there was a little game that came with it where you had to assemble parts.

Hobo shag pad in number 26. I came across a place like that in Chesapeake, VA. Lots of cool things are found in places like that.

Thanks again everyone. Its really was luck that I found the second one but I'm glad I found it. I just hope one day I can find a house a little less trashed but you always want what you cant have, haha. But thanks for all the great comments.

VERY nice find!!!

That sewing machine in #8 is a 30's or 40's Singer Model, my mother is a seamstress and has one, it's worth quite a hefty chunk of change, even in worn down shape. Just sayin.

These are great, I loved so many things in them & so many pictures. The old TV set- love it. I wasnt expecting to see the racoon in the car! Did it freak out after you took its picture?

The pictures of the woman (who I assume is the same woman from the death cert) were freaky...I never understood taking pictures @ funerals.

Very cool. Those sardines looked tasty.

While on the beach on the desolate, windward side of Bonaire, poking thru all the detritus that'd washed ashore over the decades, I came across a still-sealed, old can of sardines. I started jogging over to where my girlfriend was so I could make some stupid joke about it, when the sardine can basically exploded open, spewing the disgusting contents all over me. I guess the sardines had been baking & rotting in the container, giving off gases causing the container to expand, and my jogging with it caused it to explode open.

Even if I weren't a vegetarian, sardines are disgusting enough, but getting coated in rotten sardine remains is hard to describe. The girlfriend fell to the sand in laughter, and I just kind of stood there in shock.

So the moral of the story is, BE CAREFUL AROUND OLD SARDINE CONTAINERS!

What a great find. It looks like you've been having a lot of luck lately. I used to have the Time/Life book in No 28 about world war 2.
