Vacation Village, Texas

This place fascinates me, and makes me very sad. It's a half abandoned, half active, and all dilapidated. I'm a school bus driver by day, and I have to drive through here and drop off kids... There's a ton of kids growing up in this shithole. Makes me really sad.

Anyway, the backstory. Vacation Village was founded in the early 50's as soon as mobile homes were brought around to the public on the scenic side of Lake Lewisville as a place for the rich and well-to do of Dallas and Fort Worth to keep a mobile home and vacation. It was out of city limits, and thus outside of code enforcement, and over the years fell apart. Today, it's 50 feet from the City of Denton limits, and still claims tenants. It's grown into a strange, weird monstrosity. There are new trailers, old trailers, acouple old trailers from the 50's are missing walls and people still live there. Some people have even build very nice, modest houses in the confines of Vacation Village. Most of it though, is some of the most deplorable living conditions in Texas.

All of the shots I took for this set were from the saftey of my truck, crime in this place is off the charts. Seriously. Denton PD NEVER goes into Vacation Village because it's the county's jurisdiction, and the Sherrifs never go there because it's too out of the way. There was one time on the bus, my buddy who is also a bus driver was dropping off kids and saw a pickup truck full of guys with 3 or 4 damaged A/C units from houses... Dead obvious they had jacked them... Twice in the past 3 months stolen cars have been found out there.

Anyways, onto the goods.

1. Entrance to Vacation Village

2. Little shack from the 60's, still occupied

3. Lots of guys just have massive collections of crap in their front yards

4. More dilapidated houses

5. Gang graffiti was everywhere... This is some poor guy's house

6. This home has been sitting here since the 50's

7. Abandoned? Nope. It's occupied.

8. Abandoned? Sort of. The trailer is empty, the camper is occupied.

9. Some very nice houses in here for some reason

10. Abandoned? Yeah, for now.

11. This Mercedes is straight up jacked... The door locks are hammered in and the ignition was cut off.

12. Nope, not a garage, someone is living there.

13. So run down...

14. This trailer is missing a wall, and people are still living in it.

15. STOP
