Update!

Went back tonight with Superlocrian. Went into the basement! It's pretty sweet. Lots and lots of pretty sweet soda straws and very pristine decay. I'd really recommend checking it out but please, be very careful not to break any of the soda straws! Also be very careful, we uncovered a grate that fell a good 3 feet into a sewer? that was god only knows how deep of nasty looking water. The grate we found was so rusty that it WILL NOT hold weight. If you step on it you will fall in!

Anyways, onto the good stuff.

1. The grate of doom!

2. Soda straws were EVERYWHERE... Some of them almost reached the ground. The slightest touch will make them crumble though, so be careful!

3. There were lots of these... Any idea what they are for?

Huh, interesting.. I drove past it twice when I lived in Denton and thought it was just another McMansion going up. Had on idea it'd been there long before I moved to DFW.

You plan to go back out there again? I might have to hit it up either during dead week or after finals.

I thought it a good idea to just post again here rather than make another thread. Repetitive threads are.. well... repetitive. Hopefully this will keep the pictures of this place together as well.

I visited with Captain_Slow for my first real exploratory trip. This mansion is a really amazing place. It has three stories and a small almost-crawlspace for a basement (which we did not visit due to the possibilities of rain).

Sadly, my photos do not do the place justice. My little point-and-shoot camera, even with me messing with the manual settings really is not capable of taking good photos when it starts to get dark. Here they are; you'll have to excuse the very poor quality of most of them.

1. The spiral staircase. This is just inside the door, really the first think you see once you're inside. I'm sure this was intended to be quite a sight when the place was intended to be finished. However the staircase seems to have seen better days and we didn't trust it to hold weight very well. And that's not to mention the clearly temporary handrails which were wobbly at best.

2. The ground floor has two large wings which are basically identical except that there's an elevator shaft on one side and a second (more sturdy) set of stairs on the other. You can see here that there are more sets of doors as well, these ones more utilitarian than what the front door would likely have been. What looks like a small brick shed inside the building itself is the elevator shaft. It is also the only access to the basement that I saw.

3. There are three boxes at the back of the room on this wing. One of them was conveniently left open for us to see that they contain parts for the elevator.

4. Inside the open box. The only really distinguishable thing is the elevator button here. I wonder if this was the up or the down button?

5. The elevator equipment came from a company in the Bronx called G.A.L. and delivered to Esco Elevators in Fort Worth.

6. The main gates, now hidden from view behind the building.

7. While we're outside, take a look at the sky at sunset! Again, my little camera doesn't do the sight justice, but it was a spectacular view, especially from the second floor (by the time we got to the third, it was dark already).

8. Views of windows. Incidentally, all of the windows in this place are tinted so that you can't see in from the outside, which makes snooping around too easy.

9. Views of fireplaces. The first is on the ground floor. The second is from the second floor.

10. There is a large room at the back of the north wing (where the second set of stairs are) that seems to have been where the construction crew unloaded a lot of their stuff. There's a Coke machine in the back. Captain_Slow found that there were sadly no Cokes left.

11. The main circuit breaker was also in this back room (there were almost half a dozen scattered throughout the house, but this was the largest of them). Underneath the ripped-away panel is a huge pile of sockets for electrical outlets, light fixtures, etc.

12. Here's the only picture I got from the second floor, which is entirely one huge room.
