I went earlier this night to scout it out and as i went by the front i saw a grey truck driving around inside the fence. i then went to the field behind Gates by the overpass and could see a vehicle on the other side of the building with flashing lights. I dont want to go alone but i cant find anyone to go with and i want to get in before it gets torn down.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Your going to be hard pressed to find someone to do gates with you as a first explore. It is by far one of the riskiest explores security wise (right now). I'd love to do it one more time (i've done it at least 5 times, last time was sept) but i've got a bad feeling about it and i feel like my luck is likely to run out on the next time. More than half the time i've been spotted and had to run and hide, or just straight run. However, scouting is key to a successful Gates run. I can't promise i'll do the explore with you, but if your going anyway, PM me maybe a day ahead a time with your scouting details and if you catch me on a daring day i may just be up to the task.

You've gotta wait longer than that. 22:00 at least, or early in the morning. I may also be down for a future visit, and have been there several times myself. Send me a PM too.

It looked like in the center of the building. I was viewing from the corner of broadway and mississippi, and it looked as if the lights were on, second floor, fairly deep in. Drove past again last night, and saw the same thing, looked closer and it looked as if light were reflecting off some ducting, but at 9:30, there's not much light source around unless it's internal.

that, my friend is an optical illusion. i've seen it myself from that corner on a few occasions, the streetlights and the dirty glass at Gates line up to make it look like the lights are on from the right angle.

to my knowledge, there is no power in the factory.

do you know how to waltz?

Ya it likely is an optical illusion. However there is power to the building, at least to parts. There is a working garage door and a light in the basement that has been on for at least 5 years if not a decade. People who post stories of there first Gates adventure always seem to mention it. They freak out and think someone must be in there.

Does anybody know if the activity regarding the remodeling has slowed down at all?

Haha, I'm writing a paper on women's rights.
..... not that women's rights are funny or anything.

I've not seen much activity at all recently. I know they took down the part that is now apartments, and the rest is left, but otherwise, no idea.

I can assure you that there is no power in that building, I'm pretty sure that garage door is manual. And there is definitely no lights in the basement.

I've heard that there's now a break in the fence somewhere, but avoiding security is gonna be a fairly difficult task.

I may have a try if I can get things figured out. I'm still fairly noobish as far as my "locations explored" count goes, but I've read up on urbex like goddamn Twilight Sparkle.

Anyways, I'm planning on getting in one way or another, WITHOUT use of crowbars, lockpicks, Chuck Norris, Kamehamehas, Devin Townsend, psychotic cartoon characters, CEO'S, tactical nukes, Lord Voldemort or 80's hair metal. I promise all of those will stay far away from any locations I visit.

I assure you there is a light on down in the basement. At least as of September it still was. I've been about 5 times or so every time it's been on. I can't believe i didn't snap a picture of it, but here is a link to a site of a guy took a picture (shitty as it may be) and who speaks of the light I am talking about.
http://pyrotech-c3...al.com/241891.html

The story was from 2009 but the light he speaks of was still on the various times I went in 2010 and 2011. The light exists at the end of the main hallways in the basement, the same hallway you turn off to go into the tunnel that leads to the a big steel door (see pictures below). However where the light is a sealed part of the basement (which is why the light can't be tampered with). I have tried many times to get in there but it's seal tight except for a narrow section near the ceiling that I can't squeeze through.

As far as the garage door goes its a modern door, and new relative to the rest of Gates. It has electric up down switches common to those I see today in apartment parking garages (see picture bellow). However I tried opening it once as a quick exit because security spotted me going into the building once and i assumed would call the police, but the door wouldn't open. I just figured i wasn't operating it properly or that there was a lock or something. I was in a hurry so i didn't investigate the source of the problem.

So i'm not sure how familiar you are with the layout of the basement in gates but the light is at there is the hallway in picture 1. If you don't recognize the hallway maybe you know the tunnel that is a branch off the main hallway (pictures 2 and 3. 4th is the switch type off the garage door (much to modern for original gates design).

1. Main hallway (excuse the blur)

2. View from the tunnel leading out to the Main hallway

3. The steel door at the end of the 200yd cement tunnel

4. The door switch
