Abandoned Theme Park, Scotland

I'm a family man and it was Sunday afternoon, so of course a trip to a theme park was in order. Though I forgot the kid, and the place closed last year - so double fail

The theme park opened in the grounds of 19th Century Loudoun castle in 1995, and had three roller coasters plus a bunch of other rides. It's location probably did for it, though - it's not especially near anywhere and there's a theme park closer to Glasgow.

This ride had not even been finished:

For the first time ever exploring anywhere, someone was absolutely delighted to see me - this little fella was all on his own, he seemed to have lots of food, but he really wanted a scratch behind the ears.

There was a pretty lame figure-8 flume ride:

A few years ago, a worker was killed on this ride - a rollercoaster got stuck, and he climbed up to give it a push...

This was possibly the worst theme park in the World. So beloved was it to the people of Scotland, that in the room of 24 people right now, not one person had even realised it closed!!

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

looks like it hasn't even opened yet

I 100% agree with you - and I think this would be a very nice theme park, except if you went with their advertising campaign you'd think it was the park to rival Disneyland Florida. They talked it up, eh, a bit!!

A quick trip to P.E.I will nail you loads of abandoned amusement park goodness! In actual fact, the first abandoned amusement park I ever saw was in Canada.

Something to think about before heading out here!

ah ha, this ain't by any chance kinda south west of glasgow, over the hill as it were?

Speed & I spotted roller coasters early last year from main road but being filthy and tired and with a 9hr drive ahead skirted past it.

Reminds me VERY MUCH of american adventure land (and a few that are still open!), in the way that each 'ride' is just an auction bought thing dumped on a slab of badly cast concrete with some temp barriers around it. As a kid I can imagine it being great, but to everyone else, a bit yurk.

Go.. IN.. turbines...
