Cheap mechanic's gloves when someplace dirty, you can usually get a couple pairs for about $10 at Home Depot (I usually get the Firm Grip ones), they'll let you still work the controls on the camera, and when they get too filthy, just throw 'em away. But- they don't keep your hands warm.

I'm a big FirmGrip fan. For yard work too, not just UE! In winter I just use my regular winter gloves, they're water proof on the outside, so even some frozen poopsicle slime cleans up pretty well.

Do you mean stacked? Personally, I hate surgical gloves under real gloves, my hands tend to get sweaty. But I guess if you were careful to take your outer gloves off when you don't need them to regulate the temperature it could work out ok.

The grip is very good, they actually keep my hands pretty well protected from cold and wind, and I can even text on my tiny little qwerty phone keyboard with them. Glad I got these, will be handy very soon...

For years I was never satisfied with one glove or another.
And then I found a combo that works beautifully!!
The inner gloves are Ninja X gloves ($3.40), the outer gloves are TrueFit($12).

The inner gloves you can "pick your nose with", but you can also pull a dime out of your pocket without pulling your pocket inside out in the process. Very sensitive, but not TOO sticky like some other gloves, and the layer is thin, so you can feel things; but they're amazingly abrasion resistant too, using a bi-polymer coating on the palm. They also breath very well and don't make my hands sweat.
The wrists on them are nice and long too, so you can tuck them over long sleeves, and since they fit very snug, it keeps dirt out of everything.
They're also not bright blue or orange or white, like alot of the other dipped gloves.
I can even tie my bootlaces while wearing them, and they don't get caught and pulled in.
The outer gloves are also snug-fitting, and when I need to use them for ropes & vertical access, I just slide them on right over my Ninja X gloves. Even with both gloves on each hand, the feeling is sensitive enough to work autolocking biners and screwlocks and tie prussik knots, but they don't fall apart (like some) under heavy use. I can even operate the buttons for my headlamp, and adjust my helmet straps.
My first pair of the Ninja X gloves lasted me 3 months, with pretty constant use, till the fingers started wearing out, so I snipped them into fingerless versions. I just ordered more, and I'm trying out several of their other styles as well. I even got some in a size small for some female friends =)
The HPT's use "hydropellent technology".. they don't soak up water, but still breathe.
The Lite's are so light it's hard to tell you have them on, but they're still amazingly abrasion resistant.
And they make all sorts of other versions.
Most styles you can get just dipped palm, palm & over the knuckles, or fully dipped to the wrist, and some even have wrist cinches.
Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =) |

Relatively thin, so you still maintain great control of your movement. Have experimented with a few other gloves, like Viper tactical gloves, but you just don't have enough grip and they are too thick.
Generally only use them when climbing, or dealing with potentially hazardous surfaces that may cut me. Not too bad in the cold too!

Be careful and conscious of particles in the gloves and all that. may be wise to have dedicated exploring gloves that you are not using for your everyday activities.

Skytec? I don't remember seeing that style on their website. What are they made out of?

I don't do any games of "catch the razor wire" though, and wouldn't expect mine to stand up to any serious punishment. It's just nice to have some protection against general annoyances.
