Crack smells like shit. Meth smells like sugar. Just throwing that out there. If he was all tweeked out and running towards you, running away as fast as possible was the best bet. Tweekers are very unpredictable.

I used to live in a neighborhood with a large population of homeless crackheads. Most are harmless, but I had a run-in with one holding a very large meat cleaver on the street one night, telling me "come here white boy lemme show you something". I showed him my cell phone as I called 911 and watched him get arrested.

Generally speaking, if I run into anyone while I'm out exploring, I try to give them as much room as possible. You just never know. Homeless or not they may be trouble.

One time my buddy and I were at an abandoned school looking around and we really wanted to get into the gym. It took a while but we finally found an entrance and made our way inside and through the locker rooms to the main gym floor. Once we got in there, we gave some high fives and started looking around. A few minutes later we heard sounds outside and looked out - there was now a group of guys playing basketball on the court just outside the gym. No big deal, we thought. There used to be lots of homeless living there. Kids are way easier to deal with than homeless people...

I don't know what they noticed, but all of the sudden they were looking for us. There was 6 of them and two of us and they were shouting threats, kicking doors in, breaking things... And these weren't kids. They were very angry, very grown men. We were pinned down in there for quite a while, staying out of sight. I would hate to see what they would've done if they'd found us, for real. They kept saying "this is our hood" and the like.

We stayed out of there for a few months after that. Went back just recently and were literally covered in fleas within 5 mins. We've decided to put re-exploration of that site on hold until the winter. I can't wait. I want to explore the catwalks above the auditorium.

In this area, if I ran into any crackheads or meth cookers, chances are almost certain that I'd probably know them by name. Small town and it's all anyone does for fun around here (except for people like me who break into buildings to get their kicks). I could spit out my back door and hit four meth labs if the wind is in my favor. So I don't perceive this as much of a danger, to be honest.

Best answer yet on what crack smells like is the burnt baking powder and dogshit combo, it's gag worthy being anywhere near it, because it's true. Hate to bring it up but crack is coke + baking powder + water, that's at, coke is NOT made from crack (other way around) and sugar is definitely not routinely used to cut it, ANYWAY, I'm sorry for wasting time on that, I'm not here to discuss drugs. The best way to deal with crackheads is to avoid them, if you can't, don't let them know you have ANYTHING that's worth money, or they may THINK is worth money, they will immediately try to find out a way to take it, usually without confrontation, but not always. They will BEG you till you either bug off or GIVE them what they want out of sheer annoyance, like a little kid begging mommy till she gives in. When you run into them, ask THEM if THEY have a smoke or if THEY have a couple bucks to spare for a McCHICKEN, before they ask YOU, and bore you with a ten minute sermon on why they need it more.

Here is a link to the Freeze +P site.

http://www.aerko.c...eze%20+P%202K3.htm

I love these quotes though...

EFFECTS: The person sprayed will quickly be incapacitated and for a period of approximately 20 minutes will be unable to take concerted action. His skin will burn; his eyelids will involuntarily close; he will have difficulty breathing. His mucus membranes will secrete freely. Most individuals will experience a feeling of panic.

They contain CS called by U.S. Army scientists "Super Tear Gas" and OC recognized by the Federal Agents an effective inflammatory agent making FREEZE +P the strongest, most effective agents available to non military users.

And I mean come on! Who doesn't want to see someone get sprayed with "Super Tear Gas"? lol.

I am not sure if you aware of it, but tear gas killed already a couple of people.
I am not sure if you like to see a homeless dieing in front of you because you used "Super Tear Gas" on him while you invaded his home.

I have been exploring more years than some on here have been alive. When I started doing this it was not all about a plan, taking and posting pictures. It was just about curiosity and poking around places as a young girl.

With all that being said I have run into a great many people along the way. It started with no good long haired hippies as my dad called them to suit and tie wearing property owners. NEVER once did I need a knife, guns or pepper spray. I am not saying that pepper spray is a bad idea but it doesn't work well on someone who is all fucked up on drugs. If you meet up with someone be it a homeless person, property owner or a cop you don't know what to expect and they don't either. Try to be calm and deal with the situation. A quick dick head move will probably result in equally quick dick head reaction.

Tripod is the only weapon you ever need. Not about UE but relevant to the point above:

"
http://www.myfoxdc...at-hospital-010312
"Summerville had armed himself with a pair of scissors and stabbed a visitor in the face and neck area," says Sgt. Eddie Rivera of Manassas City Police.

The 6’6”, 280 pound man, who later admitted to police he was on PCP, was threatening others at the hospital and refused to drop the scissors. That is when police shot him with a taser.

But that didn't stop him.

Summerville walked out of the hospital with the scissors in hand.

"The officers met the subject outside on Hospital Way where after numerous commands, he was tased," says Sgt. Rivera.

In addition to being tased, Summerville was also pepper-sprayed.

"Still no response. He was tased numerous times. Our canine was then deployed. He was bit by the canine and he literally picked the dog up with his arm while the dog was still attached to his arm,” Sgt. Rivera says.

So once again, officers used the taser to finally bring Summerville to the ground.

"It was at that time that the officers gained control. He still would not release the scissors that he had used as a weapon," Sgt. Rivera says.

Officers struck him several times with an expandable baton until he dropped the scissors.

But the battle wasn't over.

"He was then escorted back to the hospital for evaluation purposes, where he became rather irate again, causing the officers to tase him again,” says Sgt. Rivera.

"

Crack is one thing, but PCP is something else, he'll kill you and not even remember he did it when he comes back to. Not much you can do to stop someone whacked out on PCP except start swinging your tripod and don't stop while he's still moving, then GTFO and ditch the murder self defense weapon in a lake.

What is the subjective analysis for an explorer to determine whether someone is on PCP that they encounter, rather than crack/meth/coughsyrup?

Do you ask them for a blood sample?

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Spray them with pepper spray; if they keep coming: apply tripod.

but we're talking about crackheads and pcp addicts. So you take an unregistered one, or one that's been acid treated or filed off the numbers. And then your story goes "he threatened me with a gun, but my kungfu was greater than his so I took it from him, but then he attacked me anyway and I had to shoot him, I'm deeply saddened by having to do this".

Clearly, explorers run into far more violent drug addicts than police officers over their course of trespassing.

* Actually, just driving around my local area I've run into far more crazy fucking rednecks who will chase you in a jacked-up pickup for cutting them off or passing them than cops who will chase you for a ticket. But that's entirely a regional thing, I don't think I have gone six months without a dickhead car chase.

Some of you have said pepper spray and mace are a joke, which I can see your point. I'm wondering what you would suggest I carry? Obviously I don't want to kill anyone or carry a weapon with me I'm not prepared to use (not to mention get arrested for carrying). I'm just wondering what advice you have?

You're a smart girl. What do you think we're going to tell you that this thread hasn't already covered? What is left to say?

You don't want to carry a "weapon", this leaves out guns/machetes/rocket launchers/baton/railgun/pulse cannon/knives.

A lot of these folks think that from the fewer instances where good mace *doesnt* work on some people, that it's not worth at least trying on all the rest of the ones it will work nicely on, same with stun weapons (stungun, taser)

Your best bet, already mentioned, is to carry a tripod and beat the shit out of someone with it if you think it is necessary.

Carrying around cans of acid or chemicals to throw in the face of would-be-attackers is probably a poor idea.

A 2x4 might be nice, but would look strange, and would likely be classed as a "weapon" in some circumstances. And really, who walks around with a 2x4 in their hand? (except the people where TVV lives)

You could try "please sir, please don't rape me! I have candy for you instead!"

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Not trying to be rude but I am sure that it will come across that way to some. The numbers pretty much sum it up. Given the number of explorers and the number of outings just documented here on UER there are very few cases of attacks and arrests. Sheesh

You take a risk just getting out of bed in the morning. Pretty much any hobby has risks from sticking your finger with a needle sewing or smacking a tree skiing. I think that my sky diving instructor in the first class said it very well. The very beginning of class he told us that there is small chance by the end of the day one of you will bounce. Of course you should be concerned about that. Now with that being said you know the risks that you are taking. We will not speak about it again. If you bring it up and obsess over it this is not for you and you will asked to leave the class and there will be no refund.

Just be smart about things. Don't explore alone and let someone know about your plans. If something doesn't feel right there is probably a reason, go with your gut. There are crazy and drug addicted people everywhere. They are not lying in wait just to attack and kill us, we are not that special.

Most cops are not complete dicks all the time. They do not want to screw up their day off to going to court because they caught you in a building taking pictures. Hell most of the places we go to the owners are MIA and don't care. They are doing their job and will ask you to leave so it is not on their conscience after you are found impaled on something after you fell through the floor. In the buildings that the owners do care and that is why the place is on a watch list.... again you know the risk. You just have to decide if it is worth it to you.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.
