| | | these are very nice! since you asked for a crit i'll say this: #3 is an awesome shot, but i don't like how the top edge of that derby-hat-looking thing on the left is lined up exactly with the horizontal baseline of the windows and vertically with the ladder. maybe if you took one more step to your right and crouched a little lower that thing would break away onto its own plane and create a nice breakup of the grid. this set is all about #1 and #3 for me.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I kind of liked how the ladder looked like it was coming out of... out of... whatever that was. I see what you mean though. I'll have to go on another rainy day to try that again. Thanks for the tip.

I've had a lot of help along the way. Not bad for little over a month of shooting, I don't think. [last edit 12/6/2010 9:50 PM by jinx13 - edited 2 times]

Yeah what gives?! Nice shots though - quite an improvement. Even though they are buttless.

+1 And +1 on vignetting, always a good plan. I would say tone it down just a hair, they're best when you don't even notice they're there, like something you see out of the corner of your eye. I'm a fan of #2, there's something about the light that gives it an extra edge of emotion. Tighten up the crop a little though, it's a little unfocused.

Duly noted. I can go back and change the amount of vignetting without too much hassle. When I get home I'll pick some of the more extreme ones and re-post them.

I was really lucky with that shot. I went on a rainy day to decrease my visibility and I caught a break in the rain. I love that shot. Then I got fucking drenched on the way out.

| | | Yeah, the only thing I have to add is ease back on the vignetting. It sometime seems like a cheap and easy way to add drama to the photos, but it can detract from some of the pictures overall. [last edit 12/8/2010 9:29 PM by macgruder - edited 1 times]

I see it now. It's a bit heavy handed. I shouldn't have been doing this so late at night. I get the feeling that the vignetting on #2 is about right, your thoughts?

| | | 2 is ok, but mostly because of what else is in the image, it looks seamless. 1,4 and 5 are way too much (in my opinion). I suggest trying your shots without vignettes all together and see how you feel about them. If you have to use them, be sparing, to make them look as if it were how it looked when you shot them. Otherwise it looks forced and you'll get the overdone results you have above.

Alright, thanks. When I get home I'll repost those w/o the vignettes so I get a better idea.
