| | What To Do, What To Do < on 12/5/2010 11:39 PM >
| | | I have just recently decided that I want to mess around with hdr and all that type of stuff. I used to be one of those people that really did not like doing anything to a photo once I had taken it, and consequently I don't have Photoshop or something similar. Anyhow, These are some photos that I thought might have potential, all have not been edited in any way shape or form. I'm seeking input on if the composition of these are any good to edit, what should have been done/shouldn't compositionally. BTW These were taken with little point and shoots(Panasonic Lumix and Kodak Easyshare) and no tripod. 1.

| | | OK, one amateur to another: #1 not quite sure what is going on here. What is the subject of the photo? Pick out something and go for it. There is way too much here drawing my eyes all over the shot. #2 I like what you were going for here, but the focal point is in mid debris line. bring it to the front or back IMO, and it clears this one up a lot for me anyway. #3, no real opinion on this one. #4, does nothing for me. I am a fan of sky shots but the way in which this tree cuts in to the shot, I don't know. too far to the side I guess, it just feels awkward. #5, my favorite of the bunch, but it needs straightened up badly. Download GIMP. It is essentially photoshop, and its free. Play around with that and keep shooting. I am still pretty new to the game too, but just getting out there and shooting and then listening to the photographers on here has taught me a lot. happy shooting!
Blah Blah Blah. Shut up and open the damn door. "It's ok Officer, I watch a lot of cop shows on tv, so i am practically one of you guys." - sadly, that didn't work. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonno23/ All my photos suck. |

| | | I'll comment on the HDR aspect of this and not the composition. I really cant tell these are HDR, which defeats the purpose of it. It's meant to even out the exposure and tones in an image and these seem as if nothing has improved. In fact the last one looks way too dark in areas.

| | | I guess I didn't do a good job of explaining myself(which is normal for me). I posted these to see how good they are compositionally and if any aren't really bad then i'll get Photoshop or Gimp and see what I can do.

In my blunt honesty, they all seem really awkward to me. The angles and positioning of the subject matter seem a little less than desirable. Symmetry (in many occasions) can be your friend.
I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream. |

| | | Yeah, honestly these are all pretty bad. You'd be wasting your time doing any processing on them. But at least you asked... too many people stampede ahead into HDR and all that crap just for the sake of doing it, before they have any idea how to compose a decent photograph that has any prayer of benefiting from it.

| | | I personally don't care for HDR at all because I've seen it used so much in UE photography. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the time and process involved. Sometimes it can be kind of interesting if the photographer chooses a subject that is really unique. I'm not really qualified to say if these are good enough to bother turning them into HDR or not but I like #3. The rest aren't that interesting to me.

| | | HDR is like autotune: a little bit is okay, but a lot is just painful.

Sorry, I forgot to add a footnote citing you. Next time I'll do so and put it in MLA format
