Chernobyl Part 2

Here is more of the Chernobyl trip that Neophile and I took. This batch includes the roof of a 16 story apartment building, the community pool, a vehicle graveyard, a police station, the hospital, and finally the famous amusement park that was never used.

1.
For those of you worried about radiation, some of the warnings are exaggerated.

2.
Some are not (the red forest, right near the Pripyat sign).

3.
Pripyat in Cyrillic.

4.
A rooftop in Pripyat 16 stories up. The reactor is far back on the right.

5.
In the apartment building.

6.
What appears to be the list of residents of the apartment building.

7.

8.

9.
Me in a military vehicle.

Did you have to get a permit or something similar to be allowed around here, or did you just go?

The Viaduct runs through the Callowhill Loft District, which is overrun with hipsters. This is just another one of those things a hipster would probably do.

We hired a private guide and just wandered around for a couple of days with him. The other two approaches we considered were just sneaking in or filing for our own permits, but I don't know enough Ukrainian to be confident with either approach.

You have to go though 3 check points to get into Pripyat.

Nice pictures. What was the cost of hiring a tour guide for a few days?

NICE!!!!!!!
I've been planning out all the details the last few months to go to the Ukraine for next year and was even going to post a thread here about anyone looking to go/hookup, as I'm flying solo out of Boston so far.
I missed you locals by a little bit I guess
From all my research I've got a pretty good idea of how my trip is going to be planned, but be warned I may be a pain in the ass pm guy for a little bit if you would be so kind
Hell, maybe we can go out for a "few" beers and shoot the sh!t a bit on it? (no gay, but very friendly to all )

Thanks so much for sharing your trip with us.
Cheers.

(can't speel fur sh1t 2day)

Once again...stunning. And reason to visit the former Soviet Union. Seeing all those old Soviet artifacts is absolutely amazing.

This place is the shit. Never get tired of looking at pics from it. Thought the vehicles were still quite radioactive though, kinda surprised you were in one!
