respirators.

since i've began exploring, i've just used cheap disposable respirator masks, when they were needed. however, i am now paying for it, with allergies like crazy from mold, i imagine. ugh.
i decided it is about time to buy a reusable half mask one; something that will be more effective.

i am curious if anyone has any recommendations? thanks!

Whatever you buy, make sure it will be comfy to wear and the filters should be good for use with asbestos.

I use this:

http://www.labsafe...SS-_i_LB30455Z.jpg

Its lightweight and packs well, seals well, is comfy, and seems to do the job. Also great since I managed to acquire a TON of P100/combo cartridges for it.

That being said, I've only felt the need to wear it a couple times. Most of the times I've been in environments where I really felt the need to use a mask, they were bad enough for me to have wanted to bring this along instead, though I still didn't. I'm sure my lungs (and eyes) will thank me later with generous amounts of cancer and COPD.

Canadian C4 mask. Probably the best and most comfortable mask ever, provided you get the newer ones with the proper valve adhesives that don't leak

the mall i recently explored had a couple mold infested rooms that did a number on me. i'm still feeling sick, and that was almost a month ago. that is, if that is why i am sick in the first place.

i actually came across the first one browsing around a bit. definitely does look decent, especially with the price tag being relatively lower.
do you happen to know how much extra cartridges run?

and, i don't exactly want a full mask, such as in the second link. i feel it is a bit unnecessary for right now.
either way, thanks for the suggestions!

The second link was more of a joke, if anything

I couldn't tell you for sure just how much the cartridges cost for it, as I've never had to buy any, but it seems that cases of 6-10 cartridges sell for anywhere in the neighbourhood of $50-100 online. ~$60 for a box of 10 seems to be the going rate, though, depending on the type of cartridge. Combo cartridges are generally twice the price for half as many.

Get one of the 6000 series 3M masks for these reason:

1) Uber cheap
2) Stackable, cheap filters, and a million to choose from
3) Moisture drains out the front, not down your shirt..

It's the one I use when called for so maybe I'm a bit biased

I have the 7503 3M face mask with the organic vapor/acid/particulate filters. Good for farts and asbestos.

yeah, that's exactly why i made this thread. i've read the article, and although it was definitely helpful, i also wanted to get input from others.

This should do the trick!!

Oh, half-mask....right. I use a Survivair half-mask. I've got different filters for different stuff I do. For mining I usually don't need to worry about asbestos so I just use the P100 flat filters. And the more cartridge looking ones for other stuff.

It's simple, and inexpensive. Does the job, is comfy. Not much to break on it.

Mmmm....I think you mean SCBA, not SCUBA.

They do CBRN's, PAPR's, and SCBA; as well as stuff like simple filtermasks and escape hoods and such.

I've been using their products for ... damn... over 10 years now. I've been happy with them.

Who uses respirators anyway? Gonna die some day! And sure, it may help when youre in a building or something, but you bring that shit home with you on your clothes. Doesnt do any good then when youre getting changed in your room.

That's funny! If you actually wore that get-up to urbex you might cause residents of the area to flee their homes and businesses in terror. Might actually be a good way to clear out the area!

Suits like that cost around $1.5K...I highly doubt you just ordered one.

You could say you're practicing for Halloween, or that you're afraid of spores or something. No reason they could arrest you for terrorism just for wearing it. Which isn't to say you wouldn't be stopped or possibly be taken in, but with the right excuse you could get out of it.

I'm looking at picking up some Tyvek coveralls. They're only like $15.

And as mentioned, you can wash stuff off your skin and change your clothes, but alot of that junk, once you breathe it in it can stay in your body forever.
