How to tell if a site is "active"

Right by my house is a Old chicken farm, that has been closed for the past couple years.... It is pretty big, and it's old so there is a bunch of old buildings around there... There are 2 "houses" on the property and the one in the entrance seems like it could be abandoned because I rarely if ever see people there. But i know there is a house in the back that has newer type cars parked there frequently, I have NEVER seen anyone drive in or out of there and i've lived right by it all my life...

What are the chances it's been explored? I know i'd want to UE it and take pics possibly, but I am scared since the last people i did see in it where some illegals (mexicans-location: SoCal) and I didn't want to cause any trouble... etc

Wat do? Anything I should really look for?

Here is "Wat do?"

- look for a hydro meter and see if it's functioning
- hydro lines cut? phone lines cut?
- place a piece of duct tape on the door, see if it's removed later
[or leave a few quarters on the step]
- do the position of the cars change from week to week?

If you're caught, ask, "Are you the guy selling the X-Box games that I spoke to on Craigslist?" or something reasonably intelligent. Sometimes I'll draw a map or write down the address to use as a 'prop' if I'm caught, claiming I was looking to buy a game console. Never thought about what would happen if they actually happened to have a Playstation for sale though.

There's always the option of exploring the rest of the site and staying away from the parts which might still be in use, I've done that myself a few times recently. Of course if there's signs that the "in use" section is a crack house then staying away from the entire site might be a better idea.

Good advice. I'll add:

-take a look at night to see if lights are on

Alright, thanks guys! Yeah I'll head by there later today and take pics and check for all those signs.

It's weird because there is 2 entrances I found, and 3 "main houses" on the farm.

The front entrance is always open, and never see ANY activity by it, and the rear one (which is located next to an old park has one with newer type cars there though never seen anyone go out or drive, then the last one is located on the opposite side of another street and goes in horizontally.

I'll check at night for the lights (that should be an obvious one) and then if i conjour up the balls to step inside the front entrance i'll poke around and do the ductape and look for those meters etc.
