| | I Would Kill Everyone in This Room for a Drop of Sweet Beer < on 9/8/2010 3:56 AM >
| | | So, I'm not even really a hobby-ist photographer, just a point and shoot...er. But I started urban exploring after being inspired by the photos on this site, so I'd like to see what you all have to say. Because anything worth doing is worth blah, blah, and so on. Anyway, I appreciate whatever response you may have for me - compliments, critiques, adoration, insult riddled aggression, etc. These were taken with a FujiFilm FinePix Z20FD, which I am pretty sure is what Nigel Barker uses for his photoshoots. Location: Tennessee Brewery in Memphis
1. Well, Hello Dolly
2. My Favorite
3. Breaaaaoooooooowrrr! (That's totally the onomatopoeic spelling of the siren sound from Silent Hill, right?)
4. Crippling Fear of Spiders
5. Mary Mother of Oh My God
6. Three Little PIgs (For Lack of a Better Title)

| | | ha! Anyway, I like your photos. I have said this a hundred times here, it's not necessarily about artistic ability. This is not entirely a photography site. It's urbex. I think we collectively expect certain people to produce certain results (i.e. artsy or not) and welcome anyone who wants to try either way. Personally, I like both. Recording the locations is the priority and I think you did just that. Thanks for posting.

| | | Though your hotlinking skills have left something to be desired, as the picture has been replaced by some sort of marketing message, I'm judging from the url that you were trying to post a picture of a pink one. Mine is actually blue, but the pink one is adorable, let's be honest. And ha! That was creative and funny! Let me try to reach the bar you've set for witty repartee. How about: Nope, not the pink one. But I did get this camera cause it's cute, little, and can fit in a small pocket, which sparked in me fond remembrances of your genitalia.

Thanks! And I agree, it is about the fun of it and providing a way to experience and remember a place that most people have shunned and forgotten. That being said, I have seen your photos, and they are stunning - and coming out with images of that quality would probably be even more fun.

| | | In an attempt to tiptoe through the minefield that is this thread, let me make a few suggestions: -Try not to shoot into the light (every photo you have is pointed straight out of a window that blacks-out most of the room that you're in (which I wanna see). -When you have to shoot into a window or skylight, try to either get an angle on it so you can see more of the room and you don't get a halo around the corners of the bit, or spot meter the window and use a fill flash. If your camera doesn't have a spot meter, you might be able to zoom in, half-press the shutter button where you want it to meter, then zoom back out. What I would have done, in 5 for example, is stand against the wall with the windows and shoot straight up for maximum light, detail, and range. -These are all medium shots, except for (maybe) the spider web. Switch it up with some macro and wide shots so that we can get the small and big pictures. As far as the actual post goes, I humbly suggest omitting titles and don't offer yourself up to "insult riddled aggression" if you can't take it without snarky comebacks. I have begun and participated in enough flame wars on this site to know that the above will surely help avoid a pointless argument.

| | | Re: Glass Thanks, I enjoyed reading your tips. I do kind of like the 'bright window dark room' sort of thing, but you're absolutely right about how the main focus should be the room itself. I will definitely try out your suggestions next time. As far as flame wars go - maybe my response seemed more aggressive than I realized. Snark, as far as I'm concerned, is just a form of sarcastic humor (kind of the same humor I found inherent in asking for insult riddled aggression) - no volatile chain reaction intended. I'm way too adorable for that sort of thing anyway. I'm not typically a message board site participant kind of guy, so I'll be more mindful of the culture going forward.
RE: Insanebuslady Thanks! Also, in retrospect and related to what I said above, just wanted to say that no hard feelings were intended by my reply; I was just having fun and hope you were, too.

| | | not bad at all. I love #2 and think that in the future if you square off a bit more with the doorway it could help it to be stronger...I really dig that you left the wall in the left side of the frame just wish that you could have shot and/or edited it to be more straight (if that makes any sense?). It looks too crooked for my tastes. Keep up the work/practice/UE-fun
