| | | Its just a thought of mine but I think the problem with the newbies could be solved with a web-site devoted only to newbies, it would have all the critical information about urban exploration and have all the active UE'ers location (so that we quit getting are there UE'ers in my area).

Yeah, you're fine to do that, and you seem well-spoken. It's these "OMG LoL well me an my m8 went 2 dis abandonned store an we s4w a ghost !!!!! iT WAS sCaRY!!!!!1" types that are really getting to me. The ones that have no concept of grammar and have probably never UE'd anything more than their own basement. Yet they think they can come on here and give everyone great pointers and ask for information without contributing anything of value, or think they're going to change the system and everyone's opinions on things like not revealing entrance locations. Wow, that turned into a rant... (spelling) [last edit 4/15/2004 6:17 PM by Servo - edited 1 times]

| | | Yeah, I hear you on that. I've been actually sneaking around various places here in SE Pennsylvania for a while, but just within the last six months came to the realization that other people do this too. Believe it or not, it never even really occured to me before now to take any pics, though I will make an effort this weekend when I visit an abandoned film factory which, I hope, will be nifty. Mostly in the past I just sketch stuff in my journal (though even that has gotten me, believe it or not, hauled down to the station on suspicion of terrorisim of all things, damn John Ashcroft) Now if anyone knows how to make an Olympus Camedia camera have its battery last longer than three freakin' weeks that would be some useful information!

| | | Servo, I agree as well. There are two Minnesotans who just signed up, sound like they're full of shit, and have been asking for entrances to things in the Twin Cities outright, while having nothing to contribute back to us. They seem to think thay have a bargaining chip (locations of some holes in a fence at a site I've already been to) and they misinterpret everything that is said to them. I got fifteen PM's yesterday from these guys!! Not to mention they claim to be from a town near mine which I absolutely fucking hate... Whoever said there should be a www.ue4n00bs.com, I'd do it myself if there was a guarantee of removing such individuals from this board and containing them in a place where their stupidity will not enrage me. I'm done.
edit: Olympus Camedia battery of yours lasts three weeks? Wow, I'm impressed. I'd say get a few sets of rechargeables and always have another set charged and ready. [last edit 4/15/2004 7:57 PM by Heartless - edited 1 times]

UEM has been in the newspaper here in Montreal. People discover urban exploration.

You do realize that this may not help at all. Some people are still going to post idiotic things and be the know-it-all type. Personality and intelligence don't change as a result of reading a website for a month. I would also assume most people don't just see the site and sign up immediately (I didn't anyway). I lurked for awhile, and when I finally felt comfortable I signed up and posted (well, technically the first time I posted I did it under 'Dukes handle to thank D-Low ).

I stumbled upon UER after doing some searches for St. Paul drains, and found a link to a message from Max Action, THE Max Action! I saw an interesting drain pic. (Phalen Creek - Blocked off sidepipe thingy). It didnt occur to me that I could join the board until a couple of weeks later, and then came a period of lurking... ue4leetnoobs.com? Thats what we need...

| | | I think that it's a good idea for people to lurk a bit before joining because then, they can also decide if they really want to become members. I've noticed that on the member-list, we have many people who became members and then never came back. At least the lurkers are more likely to eventually join and post stuff that might actually helpful and interesting for everyone.

UE has been in many newspapers here in Toronto recently. It does bring alot of newbies and this can be seen by some as a good thing and by others as a bad thing. there have been many discussions about this already.

One would get the sense that 75% of those reading the Toronto papers are idiots, then. This batch seems especially irate and determined not to listen to anyone. I hope they prove me wrong, though, and improve. Forums have a capacity to educate the newbies, but once the capacity is reached and there's too many of them, it'll descend into chaos. This is what happened to USENET.
