This is an old paper mill if memory serves me correct. If anyone knows anything feel free to pitch in, I did this in broad day light because all this was in a state park in MD. Here are all images but highlights are below.

I tried to grab some shots of stuff to get a date on this building. Like a 250W mercury bulb and a mcdonalds cup but I won't post those they're pretty boring shots.

I havent seen one of these sugar packets in years so i took a shot lol

hope you enjoy the shots thanks. sorry for not having more of a history behind this building.

You mention it's a state park - did you try going to the park office? Often they'll have a pamphlet with a map that includes the history of the park, especially if there are historic buildings. Regardless of whether the information is on paper, staff/park rangers are often very knowledgeable as well, though it might be wisest to ask after exploring...

Oh hey me and a friend tried to get in here, but turns out the guy we thought was a squatter was actually a scrapper who worked for the owner. Luckily, he told us all the info on the security of the place. If you ever go back, if the gate is open, he's there working and the city police DO make rounds there so be careful about where you park. I've tried to research this place, too, but haven't found anything online in all of my time, not even a name of the owner. The guy told us there's some kind of power facility that's across the creek there, but that's a different county and the police there are much harsher. Haven't had a chance to go back and explore, but definitely will be at least running through there in the next few weeks.

oh whoops...i parked right across the street from it, i originally wanted to park in the lot under the tracks but it was full. I suppose I got lucky, no one was there and the gate was "locked" with a rope...but I didn't even bother I just walked around the gate since the fence was knocked down anyway. There is a lot of interesting stuff going on in that place, I kind of rushed through it because I had to go take care of my sister's dog and my camera battery was dying but I would love to go back and soak some more of it in, try to get an idea of when the place was built and how long it was used. I saw PVC pipe and then I saw mercury light bulbs so I bet it was built in the 1800s and used through the 80s. Naturally they added some buildings. As you can see in this picture that building is most likely from the late 1700s after the Ellicotts and Catons started developing the land:

maybe its from the old flour mill?? who knows...I'll ask around

Haha yeah went through that gate too, but had the guy come right at as then "DID YOU GUYS EVEN NOTICE THE GATE YOU JUST HOPPED?!". Oops. But, yeah, definitely park away from that building because apparently if police see any cars there right near the building they come in looking.

well i went at 2 in the afternoon and there were cars lining the road, even cars in the lot in front of the building, people even saw me walking down the road after i came off the roof. Had I known about it I would've gone from top to bottom instead of bottom to top. I was not stealthy about it at all, granted I didn't pull out my UE bullhorn and start doing the chicken dance but I just acted like a curious hiker who got off the trail.

Wow, amazing how clean that scrapper is picking the place. Never realized how thorough those guys are...

Yeah, Lansiar, we definitely need to run through here before it's completely barren of... well... it's already pretty barren, I guess, but you know what I mean.

Word of warning to any night owls who might like to trounce through here, this region is popular for street racing, so if you cruise through here any time after 8pm, watch your ass. They will not stop for you and they will keep going if they nail you.

We didn't need a story. We didn't need a real world. We just had to keep walking. And we became the stories, we became the places. We were the lights, the deserts, the faraway worlds. We were you before you even existed.

Honestly, just go during the day, on the weekend, look like a hiker, no one will bother you. Absolutely no reason to break anything or disable anything to enter there are literally a dozen POEs depending on how difficult you want to make it. Night time would definitely be a different ambiance but isn't necessary, and there were signs of squatters who once lived there, doubt anyone lives there now.

Haha that's actually exactly when Seiko and I went and that's when we ran into said scrapper. It was a bright, beautiful Saturday afternoon and we were over there to scout the course for racing and instead ran into that. Now that I know more I half wonder if that guy was really legit or not... He certainly sounded like the real deal, but he might have known all that about police simply from hiding from them haha. Probably going back to check it out in the very near future.

lol next time you go if you see him tell him you're the scrapper and pull out a menu from a local restaurant and tell him you have papers to prove it and see what he does.

Coincidence, this is a place I was planning on visiting soon. I;m nervous about the security here, but I saw on google earth a security truck parked, so I figure I'll just make sure it's not there?
I'm considering just parking under the bridge and walking over.
Did you visit the St. Marys college while you were here? It's on the same road, the buildings obviously gone now but there are still a few things on the grounds.

Oh and about the building, I found info on a few different sites so it could be wrong. Apparently It was Bartagis Brothers Paper Mill, and built in the 1880s? Then more recently Simkin Paper Mill, and in the 2000s they had a fire. But it could all be wrong.
