These videos are from an exploration we did earlier this year of an abandoned apartment complex on the southwest side of Houston, off of Telephone Road. They were recently demolished, unfortunately.

Forgive my camera work. I was using one of those Flip video recorders, and I'm not much of a cameraman anyway. But you should be able to get a good idea of what the place was like.

The Story:

We found these apartments by chance after just exploring a renovation site down the road. Getting in was really easy, the hardest part just wading through really tall grass and brush.

The apartments seemed to have been abandoned for some time. The plaza area was covered in really tall neglected trees, overgrown vines, wild grass, etc. Many of the doors were shut with plyboard, but several other doors were open or had busted out windows that were easy to crawl through (as evidenced by the video "Going Inside".

All of the rooms had been destroyed. In every room we explored, someone had busted through the walls separating the apartments, which made it handy for us to explore multiple rooms at once. Almost every room was covered in mold. In one of the kitchens, part of the wall had been ripped away to reveal the plumbing underneath.

Though no one was paying rent there anymore, it seemed like some were still living there. We saw a few beds made from insulation, coupled with fast food trash and a few random articles of clothing.

We had parked the car next door behind a business that was closed. I kept going back every 15-30 minutes to check on the car, since this was a rather sketchy part of town. I never saw anyone. Everything seemed to be kosher. Until we were done for the day...

As we walked away from the apartments, content with a great day of exploring, we noticed a police car sitting next to ours. To be accurate, it was on the other side of a divider wall from ours, but it was obvious he was there because of us.

My companion and I exchanged curses. I said, "Just act natural. If he asks us anything, we were just here taking pictures."

We walked back to the car, the whole time trying to appear engaged in serious conversation. With each step we anticipated an HPD officer stepping out of his vehicle, the sun glinting off his black sunglasses, his mouth set in contempt.

We made it to the car, got inside. We couldn't figure out what was going on. Did he see us? Was he just making sure we weren't drug dealers? Was he going to follow us?

I told my companion to U turn so that we would drive behind him, for what it was worth.

And we drove away. And the cop did not follow. We wondered what the hell he was doing there. My best guess is that he was just there to make sure we weren't causing problems. When (and if) he saw my buddy's huge professional-looking camera, he probably understood. Kudos to him if that was the case.

APP should post up some pics soon. Until then, enjoy the vids.

Im at work right now, but I will post them up asap. I need to get my lazy arse around to putting them up on my website along with the story...

They just tore these apartments down about a month ago. Nothing left... Except maybe the abandoned Police station next door that we parked at... wink wink...

I'm not sure if that cop even saw us. He was pulled in just enough and close enough to the brick wall that from the drivers side of the car, He wouldn't be able to see us coming from the apartments, and when we left, unless he was looking in his rear view mirror, he might not have seen us leave. He might have just been doing paperwork...

But I like your theory better. Makes me sleep better at night. wait... I work at night. You know what I mean.

I like the outside of the building. Everything looks like it has slowly become overgrown with trees. Post up some of the inside pictures. That's interesting that people knocked holes through the walls to connect everything. I saw a similar apartment complex a few years that was abandoned and had the same layout as these. If I remember right, it was in a nice part of town a little north of downtown. I'll have to look for pictures, but I probably didn't take many(I was much more interested in taking pictures of the graffiti painted on the building rather than the building itself).

This place was awesome in many ways. It showed me how terrifying it can be to be staring at the police car that could take you in for alleged B&E and or Trespassing.

Here are the views from my camera:

Had to wear a mask in most places, but this apt was so moldy, I wasnt even about to go in even with a mask. Just from this shot of peeking in through a window I climbed up to, I could smell the moldiness...

Poor Camera.........only 3.2mp...

It was a fun day indeed.

Poor camera. Looks like it was a dog's chew toy. Great condom picture. Those are always nice to see. Is the floor layered with insulation and ceiling tiles? Or are those giant mounds of mold!?

The floor is layered with insulation, which was probably covered in mold! Some of these rooms we didn't venture too far into because they were so moldy, and we didn't have a respirator.

That sucks !! I wanted to re-shoot that old ass graff inside !!!! I read the article about them tearing this place down not to long ago in the press. Scrappers broke thru all those walls to get all of the copper from all the other units. That place had a million cats hiding everywhere. Cool shots.

Thanks. The cats must have somewhere along the line mutated to become invisible because of all of the black mold inhalation. Either that or just died. Ha.

Place was quiet when we were there, as far as cats and rodents go. That place was in terrible shape, but made for good pictures.

I went by there a couple of days ago. When I looked, at first I thought....what was there? And then I remembered there were apartments and that you guys had mentioned them on here. I had completely forgotten about them. But yea, lot seemed to be completely empty at the time.
