I like the subject in this photo very much. This is a tough exposure due to being in a corner in a poorly lit room, but HDR would ruin it, so don't try it!!!

I would probably try to lighten the shadows a bit though. IMHO, I would crop the baseboard and floor right out of the photo. I'm not sure if you left it in to help identify the canvas as a wall or not, but it's probably not necessary. I would also crop that wall outlet right out too. I'd like to see more of the first 'Y', it seems to be cut off.

The focus of this photo is the written statement and the thumb-tacked portrait. Everything else is distracting. So in short, widen the crop (if possible) to include the entire 'Y', crop out everything below the top of the outlet and maybe try to lighten the shadows.

Damn you for watermarking it. I was so totally going to steal it.

I kinda think the wallplug and the baseboard and floor are part of what give the photo a nice quality.

To edit all that out would make it more bland. It's being shown as it is, not as you want it to be.

But that's just me.

Give a person a match and they'll be warm for a minute, but light them on fire and they'll be warm for the rest of their life. =)

Thanks man, I appreciate it.

I actually did most of those things intentionally. I framed it to tell a story. I wanted the viewer to see the circumstances a bit. I also increased the shadow on the right a bit(adjusted black levels and a bit of burning) to give the eye something to offset the balance.

Thanks for your thoughts, I'd agree with your steps for a different vibe and maybe even purpose. I think the photo could be interpreted as sad or cute or even creepy depending on your viewpoint (and PP and cropping for that matter just as you suggest)

Anyways, thanks for looking everyone.

I agree with this.
