| | First time caving, light painting practice, new to UER < on 7/24/2010 5:51 PM >
| | | Just went caving with some new friends recently and did some impromptu 30-second exposure light painting with flashlights. Didn't have any specialized gear - just my camera, a tripod, a 20mm lens and some flashlights, but figured I'd see what I could do.

The flashlights we had (a very white LED and a more warm/yellow incandescent) created some cool color tone variations and the flourescent tent lights in the last photo shifted the white balance quite a bit, which was nice. Any feedback would be welcome. Also, if anyone in the Twin Cities/Midwest wants to go exploring sometime I'd love to tag along and document.
But I... I think I'm gonna die - before I see my time. Know I'm gonna die... Try it anyway. |

| | | Holy redneck batcave, batman! That is awesome. Is that... What is it? A mine? It looks vaguely manmade. Also: is that your furniture and xmas lights, or was that stuff there already? I would totally geek out if I found a subterranean chamber that size. Welcome to the forums!

| | | Very cool man. Can't find too much fault with the pictures, they're well composed. Might frame the first one a little different so the top of the graffiti isnt cut off That huge cave is sweet, looks like quite the spot for a party. I take it this is owned by someone your with judging by the electricity, keg, and furniture. Most people consider their den/game room to be their "man-cave", but this give it a whole new meaning

| | | Actually there wasn't any electricity in the cave. The nearest active outlet was probably a quarter-mile away or more. I was pretty blown away by the scale of whatever party happened down there given the difficulty of access and general massiveness of the cave/mine complex. Lighting for that last shot was done with a combination of tea candles, fluorescent tent lights (down the cave) and a bright LED flashlight (up close on the walls). Was a great introduction to color temperature differences between the different light sources, the results give me lots of great ideas for future cave trips...

| | | They are, but they're not lit. Whatever power source they used was gone when we got there or they moved the batteries somewhere that we didn't go. There was far more cave than we had time for that night.

| | | Nice work on the flashlight shots, they can be a real pain in the rear end. I recognize that place well!
