Looking through...

I was going through some photos tonight. This was taken at Alcatraz. (I really need to get out on a more "appropriate" exploration). I personally like this photo but not sure if it's worthy enough to be classified as any good? Your expert opinions are greatly appreciated!

The composition is ok but the background is blown out. The only way around this is losing the metered subject (structure) or HDR (Oh no, danger!) / tone mapping. I like the use of both the arch and the foliage as a frame.

bracket and blend is a perfectly acceptable solution, this does take into account that you did bracket the shot?

You can attempt to fix the blowout using Photoshop but the results are iffy.... it's a nice shot none the less.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I like how its framed. The bushes on the bottom seem to complete an oval or circle.

I'm as Canadian as it gets.
