I would recommend, as a geocacher, that if you were to put up some sort of cache/log container on a site, it would be best to give fairly specific descriptions of it's location (perhaps in the UE database). Wouldn't want people spending a ton of time digging around for it, not paying attention to the site. Geocachers can get pretty dang obvious when they're at "ground zero" on a hunt and can get rather oblivious to other things around them.

Just my recommendation...

Yup i'm with you there, we have geocachers at a park over from my work all the time, when people are in our office they always ask what people are doing over there...they assume they are jacking up or going to the toilet...

Yes, but if you're geocaching, you're much less likely to cause yourself or others extreme harm if you are not concentrating on your surroundings. Hence the rather strict rules about no freeways, rail tracks or other interesting locations (on geocaching.com).

And, if you disguised a container to look like a useless piece of crap, stuck on top of some wayward rot infested object, in some disused room of a 500,000 square foot facility resembling the Winchester Mystery House, don't expect me to actually find it unless you give me a reasonably lengthy explanation about where it is.

At least with geocaching, if you've got a decent signal you know you're within 10' of it and can expect to actually find it.

I've guest-booked chalkboards and guest registries (like at hotels) before, and one wall where there was already a substantial guest book going.

Who was it who was taking manikin parts to locals and making them the location's guest book?

Yea, I would agree that listing these caches would have to be off the groundspeak.com site and it would have to be a pretty secretive thing maybe use a common container, for locations, that wouldnt be looked at by passer by's but would be recognizable to those in the "know"

The only thing I would say about a cache in a site is that make sure no squatters frequent the place. Had a geocache that was supposed to be a night-cache with my dad a few years back. Needless to say after seeing that zombie of a squatter I am pretty sure I screamed like a girl and needed some new pants.

Yep, chalk boards and white boards are fair game, and I'm always in favor of writing my name in a layer of thick dust, but other forms of tagging are bad etiquette in my opinion.

I do whole-heartedly support chalk board and white board tagging though. I love reading the names of other explorers who have been there before, especially if they are people I know or else names I recognize for forums like this one.

A few years ago I wrote a funny tage on a white board in an abandoned hospital in Chicago. This past year I found some guys making in-joke references about it on their Flikr page. It was pretty cool to get in contact with them and they were amazed to hear I'd found them.
