Son, I am disappoint
| | First DSLR < on 7/12/2010 11:45 PM >
| | | Finally got my first DSLR and took it to an easy local place to just play with it and try to figure it out a little bit, and these are the only ones that came out looking like anything: 1) There's a little bit of blow out in the background, I know.
2)
3) This one I couldn't get to look right to save my life, so I just edited the shit out of it instead LOL

Yup, the exact one you recommended LOL. The thing is practically in new condition too! Now I need to figure out how to work the damned thing...
Also: Metadata? [last edit 7/13/2010 2:44 AM by Trap - edited 2 times]

Try shooting in program(P) and moving to Manual(M) from there. Once you start to shoot manual, you'll get the hang of it. Might also wanna read your camera manual(the book) as well whenever you have a chance.

| | | 1.nothing going on here, not focused, the blow out is the least of your worries here 2.awkward angle and subject(assuming the bricks) is centered 3.looking up, would look better straight on and at a higher f/stop [last edit 7/14/2010 4:03 AM by kevinblahh - edited 1 times]

| | | All of these are out of focus, have no form to their composition, and the first two have really boring subjects. It looks like you are shooting wide open also, which gives them an unnecessary depth of field that actually hurts the photos. For example, in three only part of the gear is in focus and the chain is out of focus... it looks terrible. You should of shot this a few f-stops higher. I'm also gonna go out on a limb and assume these werent taken with a tripod. Get one. It will help you compose your shots better and make smaller apertures possible.

| | | Good advice all around. Congrats on getting the camera. I think you'll see your understanding of photography increase quickly (assuming you invest the time and take lots of photos). My advice is now that you have the tool, start doing some reading online about photographic composition, aperture, finding the subject, and learn how every feature on your camera works so that you can make better choices as to which ones to use for a given shot. Information is understanding, and understanding leads to better photographs.
