|  | | | I have never been exploring places, and I am thinking of using this one as my first exploration.
Here is some history.
The Fenway Hotel is located in Dunedin Florida. It was built in 1925. It was also the location of the first radio broadcast in the Tampa Bay area. Recently it was used as a school. The school is no longer there and the entire place is empty. There was a contractor that was brought in to restore the hotel to its former glory and open it back up as a luxury hotel. The contractor went way into debt and renovations have not started. He ran out of money do to the decline of the economy. Right now the fate of the hotel is up in the air. Some private contractors are pushing to have the hotel demolished and replaced with condos.
Before I knew about this website, I drove up and parked and look in some of the windows. The architecture looked very nice. The outside is in excellent condition. Looks almost new. I think when it was a school, they redid the outside. The inside has a lot of old furniture and equipment sitting in what I guess is the ball room. I was thinking of going in, but I saw a sign that said it was a sheriff's training ground. I am not sure if that is true, I think they are trying to just keep junkies and homeless people out. But if someone could clarify, that would be appreciated. The other problem is that the hotel is next to a busy road, and the front lobby and the ball room has large windows that people can see into.
So I might get some friends together and go exploring. But like I said this is my first time, so any advice on getting in and what to take with me would be appreciated. Thanks

Apparently the school that was there was a private school for Scientologists, and was still an active school in '09. Might want to make sure the school is actually out of the hotel.
Looking on Google Maps Streetview I also saw a banner that looked like tours may be available. The sign, at least what I could see of it, said:
Travel Through History
XX Dunedin Historical Hotel
XX XX - 4pm Tues. - Sat.
X's denote information I couldn't read.
Aside from all of that, let me know what more you find out. I'm somewhat in the area, if it turns out to be worth a forty minute trip or so.

thanks for the link, i drove by the hotel about a month ago, it was completely abandoned. The inside had trash on the ground and all of the furniture had been piled into the ball room. Also the classrooms behind the main hotel were in a state of disrepair.
it is an interesting place, i hope they don't replace it with condos.
