First, I want to say I had an absolute blast with y'all! I've never done so much exploring in one day, and I pretty much was dead at the end of the day. It was my first time to ever go in a drain and now I can't wait to go again!

We happened to run into a real hobo at the refinery, who said "if you don't leave I'm calling the cops". I almost laughed outloud and asked with what phone he was going to do that with. They company is allowing him to live out there. *Cough* yeah right *cough*. Well KJ finally got him to give us his blessings. Besides the drain, I visited two asylum complexes, with pixel accompanying me on one of them.

Hope you enjoy them.

Good stuff! That old FBI sticker is pretty cool. J Eddy Hoover died in spring of 1972 while still Director, so that sticker itself is from '72 or before.

Bums and the like can always be negotiated with, they don't have any more right to be there than we do! That's why everyone's exploration kit should include 1 pack of smokes, and a lighter, even though that guy didn't want any smokes, which I found strange.

Drains, drains, drains, drains, drains.

Yeah, the bum stuck his head and yelled at my brother and I "There's people back here!" we laughed all the way back out. But yeah, those are some really sweet pictures. I'd like to go hit those asylums. It's always been something I've wanted to do.

I love whole "Right to Privacy" thing. Especially when they leave patient files sitting in the open. Great job

Sweet, I'm not the only Leaf fan here!

Thanks. And to the right of privacy. We found several large bins that contained all the patient records. You could read what the doctors and nurses wrote. Really, really interesting.

Dude on the first set picture number 18... That is an old, old, old X-ray machine! I am a Radiographer by profession, and haven't seen one of those in years! That has to be circa 1975 or sooner... (Technology has come a long way!)

Well maybe 80's.. but still...

I can't f'ing believe I grew up in Tulsa, and never went down to the river to check out those drains. Dammit dammit dammit. Of course, the common wisdom of the time (mid '80s) was that the Arkansas River water was so polluted that it would dissolve your flesh if you fell in it, so that probably had something to do with it.

I can assure you that the water is dirty (chocolate milk Fiend calls it), but not flesh dissolving. lol. I drain here all the time, and I get soaked most of the time, due to my refusal to conform to the man with his boots and all, and while I smell like shit, I come out unscathed, with the exception of busting my ass from walking on bastard bricks covered in algae. Who was the ass that decided to use tiles for these things anyway??

In short, I believe that the Arkansas River is a waste dump, but no worse than the Mighty Trinity! Drain on.

Drains, drains, drains, drains, drains.

We have (well more had at this point) a place out here that looks frighteningly similar - in architecture, level of decay, size and portion still used. It was a school for mentally retarded kids, complete with a hog farm down the hill, tons of outer-class buildings, dorm rooms, mini hospital (with ambulance entrance), work buildings, gyms, staff housing and it's very own cemetery! Over the years they've slowly revitalized more and more of the buildings throughout the campus, tearing several down and building new structures in their place. The hog farm and staff housing are both still abandoned and far enough away from the live buildings that they can still be explored easily. The dorm buildings are still vacant, but boarded up *very* tightly. In fact last month my company had our annual volunteer week where we pick from about 20 non-profits to sign up as a group and volunteer for the day. One of the projects was to help clean up the campus here. I couldn't bare to do that one. Surprisingly I went with the house demolition for Habitat for Humanity.

I thought it looked some kind of mid-century device torture device for insane people. Glad you cleared that up...

Great pics, VB Jag! On the Oklahoma Asylum #2, pics #10 and #11 were quite sobering...awesome stuff. Also gotta love that x-ray machine pic.

Thanks for sharing.
