Journey to the End of the World

Some buddies and I took a trip down to Plaquemines Parish. I admit it, we didn't get as far as the end of the world. We didn't even make it past Port Sulphur. That being said, we had a great trip with some wonderful places to explore.

This first set was taken on film, and it features the old courthouse at Point a la Hache. This courthouse fell victim to arson in 2002, weathered Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the vast majority of the structure remains standing to this day.

We had a great trip, ate the best shrimp po-boys in the world, and drove home satisfied.

Nice photos. I like the colors and tones, especially on the sixth and seventh ones.

reckless thoughts abide; anachronistic and impulsive.

Great set.

Thanks. I have never shot a location with film before, and I'm glad it turned out as well as it did.

I've got some more shots from the trip. Our next location was shrouded in thick undergrowth, and I only had a 50mm lens. I ended up being much too close to everything to do this place justice. It's an old factory of some sort, buried in the woods--we spotted the chimney from the highway on our way back home.

This looked very dramatic from the road, as vultures were circling it and perching on the top.

I opened up the hatch on the side of the chimney and found these remains

I honestly have no idea what kind of facility this used to be, but I'll see if I can dig up any historical information.

I really like 5 on this second post... looks like ribs, and I'm generally not one to seek out symbolism. Was that intentional?

It was more luck than a deliberate effort at symbolism. I just stumbled from behind some bushes and saw exactly what is in the frame of that picture--it looked skeletal, I liked it, and I took a picture.

Thats awesome. I need to try and use film again sometime. We all sometimes take digital photography and photoshop for granted.... (**cough cough over manipulated HDR's cough cough**) It's good to get back to the root of it...

Amazing shots.
The processing/coloration of the film pictures are just perfect.

Also, the bird skull was a cool find.

Thanks. And the processing/coloration was a product of Walgreen's 1-hour photo service. If anyone wants to get their film processed there, I wouldn't advise getting the pictures on a cd. Only 1.3 megapixels per photo--not worth paying for.

Yeah, I just used a run-of-the-mill flatbed scanner on the prints from Walgreens. It didn't get the contrast quite right, but otherwise they turned out fine.
