Edit: I ment crow bar, not crane.

If you don't want to carry a crane...er...crowbar, you can make a manhole popper out of rope and nails, or use a walking stick, piece of rebar, or other assorted items.

Manholes with...well, holes, are easy to pop. Research manhole poppers (metal bar, pole and string, etc) and play.

Ah, that's a good idea.
But after I got it open and got in what would I do? Like would I leave the lid off? Or are they pretty easy to open up from the inside?

Definitely don't leave the lid open, that will just attract attention. They're much easier to open from the inside, just don't slip and drop the manhole cover on your fingers/head.
