| | | Wallingford-Back mine and Carbide Mill < on 5/22/2010 4:58 AM >
| | | Hi there! I wanted to share some pictures I recently took from a couple of trips in 'La Belle Province'. I'm an amateur photographer, so love finding new (and old) places too explore. First, I took a trip in Gatineau Park, looking for the abandoned Carbide Mill near Meech lake. Was definitely worth the trip, what a beautiful area. can't wait to go there again with more camera equipment!
Second, was a trip up near L'Ange-Gardien, to find the Wallingford-Back mine. All I can say is WOW! Definitely will make that trip again!
Check out the link below to see the full sets I took at these locations! http://nrt.deviantart.com

| | | It's a great location (except for the snakes).
The ruins of the mill in the Gatineau Park are great - might be interesting to mention it's a wellknown spot for gay men to sunbath in the summer. I'm fine with naked/almost naked men but some guys might not... [last edit 5/23/2010 4:56 AM by maZe - edited 1 times]

| | | La couleur de l'eau est vraiment incroyable. Est-ce du à la présence de minéraux particuliers ?

| | | The colors come from the lack of 'junk' or debris in the water. The water also doesnt have any weeds or wildlife that you can see, since it stays REALLY cold year round. Most quarrys or mines that fill up are like that. The water goes milky blue because of it too (as far as I know), Ive seen that a lot in Quartz mines/quarries

I had no explanation for it, but most quarries I've seen had the same color.
First one was taken in Rouyn-Noranda a long time ago and the second one was in Thetford Mines. [last edit 5/24/2010 2:26 PM by xchuckx - edited 1 times]

| | | I was at Carbide on the 16th of May and was eaten alive by the bugs - it was so bad we left after 20 minutes... I'd not experienced such a relentless assault like that ever before. Completely unexpected.
