| | Please Help Me Improve!! < on 4/30/2010 8:40 PM >
| | | Hey guys, I have been photographing for a short while now and would like to know of any ways that i could improve my shots. I would be very grateful for any of your imput. Thanks! All of the photos below have been shot with a Sony CyberShot DSC-W330. they are all un-edited except for being cropped and one turned to black and white. The program I used to alter the images was, haha, Microsoft Word 2007.
Chains inside the Canada Malting Co.
| A door, also in the Malt Co.
| A bird carcass on railroad tracks
| Graffiti on a door inside the Leaside Rail Shops
| |
Like I said, I am grateful of any comments that you guys may have. I can take the heat, if they suck, tell me! AP

| | | Here are the things that jump out at me. 1. Blown out because of flash. 2. Not level. 3. Sky is extremely blown out, no blacks. 4. Windows are blown out, poorly framed. They aren't terrible, just consider the composition and metering- or try to combine shots to get a better image. Most of them seem to be a little out of focus, as well. And the in-camera flash never looks good.

| | | Like aurelie said, stay away from that flash. Also make sure that you are shooting in the highest resolution. This could just be the website automatically resizing the images, but a 14 MP camera should have better resolution that that. Turn the ISO down to eliminate some of that graininess. I know that the newer point-and-shoots, although being limited by their small sensors, give you a decent amount of control in manual mode. Experiment and see how it looks

| | | if you want to get better, don't rely on Word to make your images look good. ;) the only one that really stands out to me is the one with the bird carcass. the space is interesting with the lines of the rails and structure going off into the background, but the sky is distracting with how white it is. it takes away from the carcass, which is the interesting part for me. it might just be the resizing but i think the carcass is a bit out of focus, too. the rest are all pretty familiar and don't have any elements that stand out to make them especially interesting. best advice i've ever received is to look at other photographers' work. learn from it. figure out why you like (or dislike) photos rather than just saying "oh that's a pretty picture" or "wow that sucks." then think about your own photos in that way, without thinking about what you were experiencing when you took it. think about your lens position and use a tripod if you can't wrangle that flash into control (which is probably impossible with a point and shoot). and take lots of photos because that's the only way you learn.

| | | Flashes are so 1830's... Come to think of it so is MS Word. Try to find yourself a better editing program. There are may ways of getting a good one offline. AKA: Torrents However, you are on your way. It just takes getting out there and shooting.
The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark. |
