| | My first attempt at something industrial < on 4/27/2010 10:31 PM >
| | | So I finally got the opportunity to try out something new over the weekend. I know they suck, I just need a bit of help figuring out what I can do to improve next time I go back, so i'm asking for your guys'/gals' opinion It was also my first time trying any sort of light painting, as most of the exposures were about a minute long due to how dark it was.
Anything is helpful, i'm going back this weekend. Thanks folks

| | | Nice work, I think the painting turned out great. Looks like natural light filtered through an opaque window or holes in the flooring--a "dappled" effect. Did you have other lights stationed around?

| | | I'll chime in... I'm not a photographer, and there are some serious photographers on here, but the first thing to do is to grab the rule of thirds....something I've just started working on.. Try to look at the overall subject, and try to situate it within the shot so that the viewer is drawn to that particular place in the picture. That is done by looking at the foreground/background. Photo taking 101 from a layman...Biggest thing is to just get your experience on film....whatever draws your eye is what we (the viewers) want to see...why did you go? Make your pics answer that question. Hope that helps!

there are a few small holes in the wall, and lighting from the ceiling entering in from a few vents. with the exception of 2-4, everything else was just using natural light, i should have specified

thank you! i think that might be part of my problem - was trying to do overall shots, so i didnt focus on just one subject. i'll have to remind myself to do so. [last edit 4/28/2010 2:05 AM by Liska - edited 1 times]

| | | I think that works. It gives my eye a better map of what I'm supposed to be seeing. Again, I'm no expert. I think it's a hard concept to handle. Nice set. It really conveys the experience of the site. Thanks.

| | | Number 3, 4 and 5 in that second set are positively delicious. The first two are looking a little dark to me. Is that intentional?

| | | Thanks you two! I went back again the other day, and ended up with some more better shots (I think) as well. I'm getting the hang of the low-light stuff. and yeah, I know everything's a little bit dark, but i guess in a way it was intentional. I didn't want to loose the little light beams coming in from the ceiling. I'm also trying not to loose certain sections due to overexposure, since it's reallyyyy dark in there! The thread of final shots ended up over here, buried in the photography forum http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=79943 It won't let me fix the final photo at the bottom, so that ones stuck as unavailable.
