Large Qwest Man Hole?

I saw one today. Its big. Maybe 9 inches larger then a normal man hole cover. It was in a kind of busy area, so I'm not going to go pop it until I know its worth popping. I don't even know if I will be able to lift it, it's pretty big. So, anyone ever been in one of these? When I say Qwest, I'm talking about the internet/tv company, like Comcast. What's in it and is it interesting? Thanks...

its the internet.

Seriously thou.. probably just a bunch of fiber lines terminating, and a connector/relay hub thingy. Oh and tonnes of waterproofing... Nothing you would want to mess with, most likely alarmed if something is unplugged down there.

You also gotta watch out for all those oxygen displacing gasses- most of those are not connected like a storm sewer, so no airflow. Treat it the same as a underground tel switch. Could very well also be full of water.. so you would need to pump that out as well.. and than hook up a fresh air fan to pump fresh air.

The cover will also be (most likely) considerably heavier, and possibly bolted down..

So overall, not really worth it..

Manhole covers are generally WAY heavier than they look. I agree with unlisted.

Alright thanks! If I get a chance I'll go to just check it out. I've seen pictures of drains (or sewers?) that have cords on the ceiling running along it. What are those and are they related to this in any way?

These are internets. It's all a series of interconnected pipes and tubes.

I can vouch for that :p We have rain runoff pipes under our town, and it took 3 of us to lift the top of one up (it was like 2.5 x 3ft grating)

The Viaduct runs through the Callowhill Loft District, which is overrun with hipsters. This is just another one of those things a hipster would probably do.
