Abandoned Building, Busy Area

To skip the boring parts, just read this line;
I'd like some tips on how to get into an abandoned building right across from this part of town's main gas station.

And, here's the boredom filled rant;
I have explored before, but never really near any places that ever have too much attention drawn towards them. For that matter, my first trip was to a long abandoned island, with a whole community formerly nestled there, my last, an "abandoned" grocery store, out of the way of the main road. (Long story short, grocery store's not abandoned, is now storage for Yamaha vehicles, has an alarm, and I stepped onto the sidewalk half a second before the owner showed up.)

Anyways, guy died in this house across from the gas station five years ago. It's been ignored and left to rot ever since, primarily due to the fact that he had no family and no one else wanted to clean up his beer-bottle-filled, squirrel-infested, place-he-died-and-no-one-found-him-for-two-weeks place of residence.

I may not want to clean it up, but I would like to see how true the rumors about him were (beer-drinking, furniture-less, no shower, etc) and the chance of running into a dead squirrel or at least skeleton just brightens the enthusiasm.

There's nothing to the back of the house, but both sides have houses (unconfirmed whether they're abandoned or not) and of course the gas station up front, with a little guy sitting in his booth waiting for full-serve patrons most of the time, who has a clear view of the house.

So, tips, suggestions, or rude comments all welcome.

Some idea's in no specific order.

-Look for any entry at night some time.

-Time your approach when the attendant "services" someone. You must be from NJ.

-Confirm yourself if those neighboring hoses are all abandoned or not. It will make a big difference.

-Never forget about the roof entry.

-If sealed really good, walk right to the back of the house like you own it. *make an entry* Leave. Come back a week later.

-This:

For finding an entry, start by looking from a far away point and progressively get closer until you find your POE. Only get close unless you actually have to or are making entry.

Start on the internet maps. Determine what areas/sides of the building will be more likely to have a good entry and good cover. Then look at it while driving by, from cross the street, or from a parking lot next door while still drawing absolutely no attention to the location. The goal is to only get as close as you need to and learn as much as you can about the place right up until you have to get very close and enter.

From the distance, pick out 2-3 potential building/security weakness you think you should work on or check out more closely. Even better if they're out of site of people/cars like behind the building or in an alcove (hell, or even roof). Now you can more quickly walk right up to the building and have better a success rate of getting in quick since you have a primary goal and two backup goals instead of just winging it.

place camera around neck, walk up to gas station guy, start a conversation about the house, tell him that you plan to walk over and take some photos of the exterior etc.... chances are he probably doesn't care and could give you valuable information about whether there are neighbours to worry about.

What you need is a diversion--an explosion, plane crash, raptor attack. And while his attention is drawn away, you slip in.

Other idea, grab a clipboard and wear work clothes, and he won't get suspicious.

Just to clarify. I believe that should be a plane crashing into an attacking raptor causing an explosion. I've found doing all at the same time works very well.

You must be from NJ.

I was thinking the same thing.

Something to consider:

If you consider the "in plain sight" option and choose to walk directly onto the property, a clipboard and tape measure work wonders. Some people prefer this method, while some of us use it as a last resort if covert entry fails or is deemed more of a 'risk' due to neighboring parties who can't help but see you. If you do consider the clipboard/tape measure "costume", also have a story to back it up when Mildred and Floyd exit their home as you exit to find out what ol' Burt plans to do with his defunct property.

On a cloudy day, prepare your gear and board your zeppelin. Maintain an altitude well above the lowest clouds and position your airship directly above your target building. Lower a ladder and quietly climb down to the roof of your target building and feel free to explore at will. When finished, simply radio up to the awaiting zeppelin and grab the ladder which will be winched up by your trusty zeppelin crew.

Another approach favored by many is the tunneling method. Simply begin a tunnel in your basement heading in the general direction of the place you want to explore. Continue tunneling until you are directly underneath your intended target building, then just dig straight up. Remember, when you are underground, no one can see you and you are in fact invisible.

A very gutsy method is hiding in plain sight. Dress up as General Patton, complete with chrome helmet and riding crop. I ask you, who is going to question general George patton if he wants to root around where some might not be so bold? Remember to carry white inspection-grade gloves to gloveslap any who dare question your authority to be where you want, when you want.

White gloves, tape measure, raptors... Maybe a plane or two. Hmm...
Think I'm all set.
Thanks!

Or you can burn the Gas station and neighboring houses and then you dont have to worry about anybody seeing you go in. Everybody else would be dead and you'll be covered by the massive amounts of fires burning at the same time.

^This^ Its so well thought out and planned that it cant fail!

Just go on an early Sunday morning, wait until no one is looking or around and walk up to it. If someone drives by or see's you while approaching, just pull out your camera and make like a tourist, then when the coast is clear, make entry.

Acting like you know what your doing is always a good idea, most people that would be at a gas station will probably think your somebody that knows something they don't. Like a photographer that was hired to take pictures before the building was torn down or something.

Tie up the gas station attendant, and be sure to hide your identity by wearing a ski-mask.

All joking aside, it'll probably be very boring, especially if it's just beer bottles and no furniture

I like the clipboard and tape measure thing. If someone (anyone but law enforcement) asks, say you are an independent contractor for a local real estate company and you are just checking some structural points for resale.

Dont dress in wild clothing that screams "I am about to break in" khakis and a workshirt will do fine.

If you're truly motivated, learn the time of shift changes at the gas station. Ask them if theyre hiring, and if they were, what hours they would need help.

Is it a 24hr gas station? do they close at any point? There has to be some point at which theyre pre-occupied. They'll have a security camera but only be mindful of that if it's really that close.

Seems like a lot to go through just to see a pile of junk, I would suggest watching an episode of "hoarders" and pick another location...

The most you're going to find is a big pile of festering filth, but if you think thats worth the risk then whatever.

Also you may want to consider getting a tetanus and or rabies vaccination.

OK maybe thats going too far,

but DONT TOUCH ANYTHING, unless it's really cool and maybe not even then.
