| | | In memory of the Factory Outlet Mall in Allen... < on 3/23/2010 5:49 AM >
| | | The abandoned mall off of 75 and 121 in Allen, TX was one of the first buildings I explored a few years ago and have been to many times since. Back when we had that huge snow storm I wanted to go back and take some more photo's from the inside because I thought it would look so gorgeous on the inside with all the snow on the ground and floating in through the broken window panels in the ceiling...the center area would have especially been gorgeous. Unfortunately to my disappointment as I pulled up past some brush I almost ran into a bulldozer that was in the process of tearing the building down and scooping the demolished debris into a pile so I quickly backed out and sped off. I didn't think they were going to start demolishing that soon and let alone on a really snowy day but I guess they're finally making way for the highway expansion. I haven't driven by in a while but I'm sure by now the building has been completely leveled and gone after 20 or maybe even 30 years of being abandoned. I still need to do some more research on the buildings history since I'm not entirely sure when it was built or closed and so on. I've heard from some locals that it was closed sometime during the late 80's or early 90's due to some construction material violation from building with hazardous materials, probably asbestos issues. On my first exploration of the place a few years ago in 2006 I think, we found some ancient tampons unused in their original boxes that fell out of a busted dispenser and they looked like they dated back to the late 70's but we couldn't find a date on them so I don't know for sure. If anyone knows or has any other info or pics of this place they liked to share please do. Here's some that I've taken over the years:

| | | Wow, that places looks amazing. I would love to run across and old mall. New highways ruin lots of cool stuff. Here in OKC there are quite a bit that they are going to tear down for an expansion as well. Thanks for the photos, lucky.

| | | Well, to be fair, the place was abandoned and wide open for something like 20 years... I'm surprised it lasted this long.

Yeah me too actually, I'm just glad I got to go in as many times as I did before it got torn down at least. I'm gonna miss it though, I had a lot of good memories and stories from that building. And thanks Ruins in Red! But I'm jealous that you guys in Oklahoma have a freaking castle lol...although I'm sure most of it is open to the public since it's in a park but it's still really cool...I've thought about driving up there for that as well as some other stops along the way.

| | | yeah I was sad to see it go. we where watching them demolish it back in february. I think the only reason they ripped it down is because of all the road construction in the area. They seem to be clearing everything in the area thats not active.

Heh yeah, it's pretty neat! If I ever get full membership, I have another set of photos to add that I took just last month of Collings. It's pretty awesome, if you go before the summer time hits, it is cheaper to get in the park! When I went.. I was literally the only one there that I saw other than one employee the whole hour and a half I was there. It was pretty awesome, I say go!

Yeah some friends and I are probably gonna go on an road trip this summer and make a stop there. It's too cool to pass up in my opinion. And I feel ya cdevon...it was one of the first buildings I ever explored and it's partly what got me into urban exploring all together in the first place. Gonna miss it.

found them: http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post9 Yeah those are great...that's cool to see some from before when I went and when it was in better condition too. I noticed in one of the pics you had posted you can see a mall booth...I've seen charred or black outlines on the floor of where they used to be though, just didn't know what had burnt or how/why. I've heard rumors from local police that there had been meth-heads that built meth labs in the mall so if that's true and not a story to scare people off maybe they built one in the booth and had to set it on fire to destroy it to keep from getting in trouble or something. Also heard from them (after I went in) that the meth heads were living in the ceiling and my friend and I did hear rustling coming from the ceiling so idk. Made for some great stories though. But yeah thanks for sharing those man, I liked them.

| | | In the ceiling? By the time I saw the place, all that was left of "the ceiling" were a bunch of aluminum bars hanging from above, like a maze without any walls. If there was a ceiling area before, I think it was a drop ceiling, and nothing heavier than a rat could have lived there -- maybe a possum or raccoon, if they walked lightly. Sounds like something authority figures tell kids to keep them out of trouble, kinda like "Don't swim for an hour after you eat", "Don't cross your eyes or they'll stick like that", and "Don't do that or you'll go blind". what, there's something dirty about looking into the sun?

perhaps...but we did find a couple areas where there were step stools and ladders up into a small ceiling area where there were some thick areas of wood you could walk...we didn't go up to check it out though. We did hear noises in the ceiling one night thought but could of been animals I suppose
probably was just a cop story though

| | | Interesting... I never really got to check out the bathrooms, since I didn't have a flashlight (and we were all running around like ADHD ferrets on speed, it was so cool). But judging from the precarious position of the ladder in that pic... and the wall busted out behind it showing electrical conduit... I'm thinking scrappers working on "liberating" the remaining copper wiring. You'd probably have a solid ceiling above the bathrooms, for security reasons... but you'd have to be pretty desperate to actually live up there. I'd rather live in a drain, but that's just me... on some days, I'd rather live in a drain anyway.
