First trip to HRSH - owned!

For starters, I guess this was my first excursion officially titled UE. I've been checking out abandoned places for quite some time, but never really labeled it. Anyway, some buddies and I decided to check out the very well-known (and heavily explored) HRSH. The place was amazing, and we were quite surprised at how big the grounds are, and how many buildings there are. We had a pretty thorough investigation of Ryon Hall, and we scoured as much as the Kirkbride as we could.

Unfortunately, our trip got cut short when we had a run-in with the Poughkeepsie PD. Kind of felt like a bunch of douche bags, especially after reading how many people have been there a bunch of times with no issues. We were completely unfamiliar with the grounds, too, so I'm pretty sure we might have checked out some spots that might not have been time best spent.

Anyway, I would love to go back and see the spots we missed, and would really like to go with someone who knows the area. I'm not looking to be 'spoon-fed' so to speak, but if someone who really knows the grounds would be willing to show a rookie the ropes, that would totally kill.

I am looking very forward to continuing my exploration of these awesome spots.

The forums here are a wealth of information if you seek it out. Read a lot, read more, read more still. This is not a hobby for the unprepared.

Sadly I witnessed police rousting people out of a location I just happened to be driving past in the recent past. 10 cop cars, fire trucks, streets blocked off, cops looking for the people in the group who obviously must have gone running, cops on the roof scouting the location , cops inside with dogs, cops, cops, send more cops. Get the picture? All because some idiots decided to go into a completely visible location in a high traffic area on one of the first nice days since last spring, snow was on the ground, so it was easy for the cops to find the entrance used, dooooy. My best guess is they were stupid enough to be seen going in or being on top, and thought it looked like fun. I winced when I saw the cops leading out several sheepish looking 20-somethings in cuffs to awaiting squads.

I won't give you any advice because everyone has to learn on thier own, and by reading in places like this from those who have, and filing it away for possible future use. Be prepared, don't be afraid to not go if it doesn't feel absoloutly right or feels unsafe. Not a hobby for the unprepared.

GOod luck.
