| | | I tried to post this on Friday, but I didn't realise that the formatting for quotes on UER is different so here it is...
I will probably get in trouble for posting this as I didn't get permission from everyone to post their quotes. This post is a bit of an insight into the Cave Clan. It may also somewhat explain my excitement with helicopters (and ropes) Cheers, Doug.
Posted by Doug Hi. When we were trying to get into KLP I remembered the time when Swipe was trying to solve a problem and after thinking for awhile he said... "We need a helicopter" but then he realised that we wouldn't be able to land so a minute or two later he thoughtfully added... "and a rope!". IF we had a rope (and a helicopter) we could have gotten into KLP easily. And found a camping spot easier at the Grampians, and imagine how much fun it would be when you're drunk and you hover around people's houses at all ours of the morning. Posted by Azenis damn we need that cordless angle grinder!! Unless we got a helicopter, some rope, we would need some pulleys to get around the corners and all... could work! |
Posted by Loki
Posted by Beanz The Island one has to be the oooldest and raddest location known to all that no one can really do |
What we need right... is like... some kind of like... helicopter... like... ya with me?.. and from this helicopter thing right... we could like... hang some kind of... rope... thing... right? |
Posted by Laque I have all that I'd need, except for a rope....... and a helicopter |

Posted by Al I this where they start there Probation? do you think having a topside location is a good idea as their first expo? |
I dunno - what do you think? some of them have said they have explored some sites before so i thought there would not be a problem with whatever we do. The footy ground is virtually as safe as houses anyway - DanMan and I went in there during the day on a sunday and it was sweeet mayyyte... I don't want to be a teacher and judge their performance or anything on the day, just to have something where we can go and do something together and then see what it's like, sorta like breaking the ice, get some ideas, drink bee-ah...See how it goes anyway. If we had a helicopter and some rope it would be gooder... |
Posted by Doug Yeah, they are pretty obvious... they are 32 storeys high... and you can see them from the city, Spencer St station... anywhere from the inner west. You can NOT get into them now. They are alarmed and there is no escape once inside (a part from James Bond type shit... or a helicopter... and some rope).

Not really a location, but of the northeast coast of Flinders Island there is a sunken ship called the C.C. Funk. I would love to think it was the 'Cave Clan Funk' and if I ever get a boat that is what I am going to call it |
If we had a helicopter, and some rope, or maybe a submarine... |
Posted by ZBlack Duck Is it still stuck there?? we could offer them a helicopter and a rope! |
Posted by DanMan He said he was considering ringing me up to bring a ladder or (helicopter and) rope but he made it out eventually. My rule of thumb is if its fast water and over your mid calf best to not bother trying to chance it. |

Posted by Willyman - All you needed was one guy and a rope! a carton of beer should settle this. |
Yea.. 200 guys.. pffft.. and you call yourselves the "Emergency Services" all the cave clan would need is... a helicopter and a rope... |
Posted by Ath The other night Pip and I hired a helicopter and some rope and I managed to get a shot of the beautiful MPS in its natural surroundings. It was quite a site, ummm I mean sight. Doesn't look like much has been done with the outside since we last visited. It's promising after BD's post to know that she will be haunting our skyline for a little while to come.

Posted by Chuma Bits & Pieces Director: Doug Tagline: Bit ‘o this ‘n’ that! This great collection of odds and ends includes stuff that wouldn’t really fit into the other shorts. I can see why people look forward to Murchison as it looks very relaxing (even with the little girl yelling.) There are some japes with the “helicopter and a rope” and the infamous Jamieson to Licola “shortcut” (I thought only Pommie backpackers fell for that one!) It is wrapped up with a great horror movie style establishing shot visit to a remote petrol station. Rating: 8/10 |
Posted by Lord Dredd nah helicopter and a rope will fix the stuck manholes. if its the main bar bending, then prolly one of the few wat to strengthen it would be triangle brace on top. |

Posted by Ath I'm several hours too late |
That might be due to spending way too much time on the updog, Ath. Just arrived home - long story short: it's doable, for how long I don't know. But it IS risky given live-in-fear mentality (insert T-word here) - and you've got nowhere to go if busted whilst up there... well presuming you wish to live. I'm guessing that the door may be open tonight (Sunday), but you need a ladder and ideally a rope... and/or a helicopter. Allow a couple of hours or so. (Could probably do in an hour at an absolute minimum - the ascent and decent take a bit of time - but two or more is far more realistic if you want to take in the view and get some pictures.) The smoke is a bit of a bummer tho. Nice bit of detective work there Pete |
Posted by Dimmeys We broke three lift-o-matics once trying to get a manhole open above Fortress. It was rusted good. We had ropes (no helicopter), lanoline spray, lifters, car-jacks... we tried everything. We never did get it open. |

Posted by MulletJocks me and Neg and Dimmeys have got the helicopter covered.(its red, and shiny, and not very secure, but also possibly not running....) has anyone got any rope though? |
Posted by Azenis That first one looks very cool. Gonna be extremely hard to get to it though, without a boat with which to sail around the island, or at least a helicopter and some rope. There are no roads around that part of the state. But as you can see, its magic for photography. The Otago is not far from our place, and it is where Otago Bay gets its name. Not much of it left, but its cool. Wisie has some nice pics of it on his blog. There is also an old ships boiler at Cremorne Beach buried in the sand. |
Posted by Dimmeys We don't even need a helicopter and a rope any more, now that we have Beanz's rescue-shlong instead! |
Posted by Sypher a boat tied to a helicopter with some rope while the pope smokes dope. |
Posted by Doug I will be in Omeo over Easter which is 100Ks as the helicopter and a rope flies, but 200Ks and 4 and half hours as the burnt out Commodore travels on unsealed roads around a mountain range... so if anyone has a helicopter & a rope let me know. |

Or a helicopter with a rope? |
Fuck you I was just about to write that |
Posted by Ath I've been up to neck high at City before and carried back pack on head... Tide details are as follows: Saturday 16th of January High Tide: 5.16am Low Tide: 11.21am High Tide: 16.03pm Low Tide: 22.07pm At a guess I reckon we'll be there an hour before high tide which would probably mean chest high at a guess. Hopefully I'm wrong and it is lower than that. We can help each other get our stuff down perhaps a person could lower bags down via a rope, no helicopter of course. |
