Planning a trip! (Oregon Coast)

So my girlfriend and I are planning a trip from Colorado Springs to the Oregon Coast. We were going to start in Brookings and travel all the way up to Astoria. Any suggestions that we could hit along the way?

There's some missile silos and some kind of cement plant out in eastern Washington, and lots of mines up in the rockies. There's also an abandoned hot springs resort in Eastern Oregon, but it kind of sucks from what I remember.

Get the topo maps for Google Earth, follow your route, and look for anything interesting like mines, tunnels, etc...

Near Astoria there are some abandoned sea coast defense bunkers that are kind of fun. But they are part of a park, so they are open to the public.

If you're coming through on 84, you could stop at Lime. Pretty cool stuff.

Fort Stevens by Astoria is fun, Fort Columbia on the Washington side is supposed to be cool too and like OttoL said they're both parks.

And I'll second the nomination for Lime.

Be careful in those bunkers, sometimes gigantic firecrackers go off and deafen people, I heard Atomic was trying to take a dump but it scared him so much it went back up. Also the rednecks in the trailer park next door got agitated. I mean, may be agitated, if such a theoretical event were to happen.

There used to be a huge early warning facility in oregon but I vaguely remember reading some article about its demolition. I think there are other radar sites still extant around there tho.

Oregon Trail follows I85
Bound to be something to see related.

I find mytopo to be better and clearer then previous online topo maps.

I took a trip down the coast last year. It was beautiful but i thought Astoria wasn't that great. But i did camp at Fort Stevens and it was pretty cool.
