One of the runways is still active so I am surprised they said you could go out and wander around. There are two PV-2 Harpoons out there that are very rare. I highly doubt that this place is even remotely so important as to hire more, especially at night. I think a night time trip would work out fine. More recently, the place was deserted, only the large flood lamps on the hangar were on. It appears that all operations have ceased here. The first was about 3-4 years ago and all the planes were there as well as the helicopters. We used to climb all over and in the aircraft. DC-5's 6 and 7's. Some were old airliners,one was a U.S. Air Force recon,the rest were converted to slurry bombers. Yes the PV-2's were there as well as a private executive plane. We came in off of Queen Creek road through the desert,to the runways and then to the planes, no one ever stopped us. Unfortunately they scrapped all the planes and helicopters except for the 2 or 3 going to museums and 3 slurry bombers waiting their fate with the scrappers. All the building are gone except one which has a rent a cop.
