Hello,

I was in talks with a friend and one of them brought up the gila river memorial airport aka Goodyear AF Auxiliary center, The location is chandler az* off of queen creek road between price road and the the 10 freeway, The airfield has been abandoned now for two years being the indians tribune took control of the property, there used to be 56 copters 13 planes, I got permission to go out and photograph from the tribe But i don't want to go alone,

Here is the website that shows all sorts of photos and history of this place,

That's fine, I was going to add anyway that I'd rather not go out there like "Well this guy said he talked to some guy that said we could be out here." Written permission would be great at such a well-known site as this one.

Only a few planes left out there(7?), but still pretty cool to check out. One of the runways is still active so I am surprised they said you could go out and wander around. There are two PV-2 Harpoons out there that are very rare. They have both been purchased by museums are awaiting transport.

When I went we were stopped by one rent-a-cop and it was in broad daylight. I highly doubt that this place is even remotely so important as to hire more, especially at night. I think a night time trip would work out fine.

I'd go for a nocturnal trip just for the fun. The only thing we would have to be careful about is the remoteness of the location making it obvious we are there; specifically referring to vehicle headlights upon arrival.

you can see someone coming for honestly about a mile away no joke everything is very open, So you can see a car off the side or not, The bads are is no place to park, Intel is there but its private property only road close and the other road is queen creek road unless you want to drive there to the strip. i dont there is security the place is closed down and they tore down two of the buildings as of late,

Previously, when I visited at night, the large main hangar was occupied, they even had the large doors on the west side of the building open. More recently, the place was deserted, only the large flood lamps on the hangar were on. It appears that all operations have ceased here.

id, be up for a trip, i did a run through there with my camera not too long ago. didnt get a great look because i ran right by the rent a cop as soon as i got out of a truck, but a fence between me and his ford focus gave me enough ground to run through afew hangars and hop into my friends truck bed at the end. this wouldnt be the same type of trip, i didnt want to even talk to the rent a cop that last time

I have been there a few times, all night trips. The first was about 3-4 years ago and all the planes were there as well as the helicopters. We used to climb all over and in the aircraft. DC-5's 6 and 7's. Some were old airliners, one was a U.S. Air Force recon, the rest were converted to slurry bombers. Yes the PV-2's were there as well as a private executive plane.
We came in off of Queen Creek road through the desert,to the runways and then to the planes, no one ever stopped us. Unfortunately they scrapped all the planes and helicopters except for the 2 or 3 going to museums and 3 slurry bombers waiting their fate with the scrappers. All the building are gone except one which has a rent a cop. Not worth going to anymore, as all the planes require going by the guard.

Hey gang,
Heading into Phx for family holidays. Have wanted to hit this one for a while now.

Updates? Has there been any change in plane inventory or hanger use?
Rent-a-cop still there? Where does he patrol, just around the hanger?

Thanks for any info.

My advice is to go early in the morning around sunrise. I didn't have any problems at that time when I went.
