One shot from the library.

I saw heating/cooling technician working on something at the library, then scaled the fence when the left and snapped this shot of the new heating/cooling system. Any thoughts? Composition? Exposure? Subject matter?

Are you shooting a product catalogue?

In that case the photo is fine.

You cut off the concrete plinth a little at the left and right.

Apart from that; it's very much a picture of an air conditioner? It works in a 'documentary' sense, as a record of an air conditioner.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Yeah, my back was on the fence, so the concrete got cropped.

Not the best image I know, I was more concerned with your opinion on exposure and what not.

Exposure seems to be OK. I can make out the shadows beside the central spider-gear and I can see the detail inside the caged part, so yeah that's good.

Aperture selection looks alright as the depth of field allows for seeing as much detail in the foreground as the background, which works well for the documentary style of shot.

What possibly lets it down a bit in documentary style is that the angle doesn't allow me to read the text on the stickers, but not really a big deal. So no major problems on the above points.

BUT

It's still just an air-conditioner. There isn't much to grip the viewer.

Thank you Turbo, I'm trying like hell to get used to manual mode on my camera and your words bring me hope.

I see your point. I liked the tree in the shot before, but now that I'm looking at it again, it seems off...like the tree was photoshoped in. The upper left is noticeable too, I think it has to do with the dark roof line and the brass deposits running down the walls, gives that corner almost a Vignette look.

Man, you are fucking awesome, I love those machines and I love your shot. Mainly 'cause i make Experimental Noise Industrial Music using natural objects like machines and iron bars.. http://www.myspace.com/nightofsolitude

10/10, great exposure and levels, very well done. Try to do a cool photoshop experiment with it, like try to make it look like it's from a post-apocalypse era. Love the shot!!

I think I might have tried shooting it in Landscape instead of Portrait. To me I don't really care so much what's above or below this particular subject, but what's beside it looks to be more interesting. Did you shoot any Landscape?

From the horribly dystopia where once human civilization crumbles, all we are left with is air conditioning units? What?

Same as everyone else said- documentary and crooked. Nailing those architectural straights are a must when shooting minimally.
