| | | Heya guys, I'm relatively new to UE and I'm wondering what would be a good camera to have along with me; I tend to prefer Fujifilm, but I can work with whatever, really. I'll probably be doing some draining and a lot of abandoned factories/industrial complexes. Also, what are the odds of me needing a manhole cover lifter and can anyone recommend a relatively cheap one? Are there any other tools I should be bringing besides the basics (boots, flashlight, gloves, spare flashlight, food and drink, another spare flashlight, etc.)? Oh, also, I understand that asking for locations isn't cool (for police spying reasons, to get people to be creative, etc.). Would it be considered acceptable to ask for DETAILS of locations that you already know about, though? Thanks, --Cap'n Morgatz

| | | It's actually against the forums rules to discuss entry details about locations. If you're just interested if the building is alarmed or actively patrolled by security that's fine. But expect a cold response if you plan to ask how to get in a building.
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

The camera you're willing to bring is infinitely better than the one you leave at home for fear of breaking it. Low noise, manual focus, and long exposures are key for drains. You'll probably want a tripod, make sure it will hold the camera securely. Manhole cover lifters are easy to make. A pry bar (edge cutouts) or a bolt on a string (for holes). This web site has a waiting period for a reason. Not to be harsh, but forum archives are so you look before you speak. The search thing to answer your other questions. Why would you ask about a place you've been? Go back and look.

| | | I'm not talking about asking for an entrance, I was thinking more along the lines of what to look out for while you're in. Example: there are a variety of quarries and such in Frederick County, MD and I might ask if any of the buildings are likely to be rotted out, that sort of thing. Alternatively, if there's anything in a drain system that if I'm there I should absolutely look for while I'm there, like an awesome skylight or something similar. Also, I know how to pick a camera for various tasks, I was asking if anyone had a specific model in mind that I could look up so I don't spend a few hours doing comparisons. ^_^ Thanks for the tip on the manhole lifters, though.

Look at the Canon 400/450/500Ds, they seem to be quite popular. EDIT: These are called Rebels in the US. [last edit 11/9/2009 4:54 AM by Loki - edited 1 times]

You should learn on your own what unsafe flooring feels like. I would NEVER rely on the advice of others if a floor is safe or unsafe. Treat all floors as if they could give way at any moment. "Be on the look out for ... " It's better to explore on your own, instead of trying to find things other people have told you to look for. Maybe you'll find something new that no one else has seen before. However, an acceptable question IMO is "what's security like, where are they located?" Doing your own research and finding your own way in is best, but I'd rather ask someone the best way into a specific location, than risk getting caught and putting more heat on the location for other people. I think that most explorers would feel the same. and Canon Digital Rebel Line or similarly priced Nikon D40, D60, D3000, or D5000 [last edit 11/9/2009 1:53 AM by \/adder - edited 1 times]

| | | The Cannon 450D is what i take exploring when i know the location and also the group, if there will be enough time to set up some good shots. Otherwise i use an Cannon Ixus with this installed onto the flash card. http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK That hack covers most of the new Cannon range, and doesn't void your warranty or change anything on the camera if you don't want it to. So i have a really compact camera that is still able to take good long exposures, And then work out for next time if i want to bring the full photography gear
