Wolters? Why have I not heard of this?

I don't know but that place is EPIC. And I only saw a small percentage of it. Google Fort Wolters or look it up in the DB. Gotta check it out.

Originally I'm from, like, NJ. Now I live in, like, California.

If you had like, been paying attention you would have, like, seen that I'm out here visiting family.

I suppose some people really have nothing better to do....

Agreed. I get that all the time. Usually when some smartass punk is face down unconscious in front of me.

NJ is a terrible place. The armpit of America. Getting out was one of the smartest things I ever did. Sure don't miss "that smell"...

But don't even get me started on TX.

whats the can on your rig in your avitar?

When I say I'm 'clean and sober', it means I've showered and I'm headed to the liquor store.

So, it seems you like Ft. Wolters and the gun is Airsoft... so I thought I'd just mention that I've played Airsoft at Ft. Wolters before. It was cool but not as cool as playing at Ft. Hood.

Heard a story about some college boys running around the dorm with airsoft guns. Was fun till someone saw one in a hoodie with a grip stickin' out of his pants and called the cops. Locked down the dorm while they went floor to floor looking for them. Luckily, not of the officers put a round thru one of them and I think they learned their lesson....

So today I had my first day off in about a YEAR that was all mine to do whatever I damn well pleased. I decided to drive around and find something to explore (alone... which isn't something I'm real fond of doing, but I was just looking for inviting type places.) and ended up at the Baker.

I just thought it was amusing how I was looking around the place, noticing all the wood that warned the city was watching me and having no luck. I heard a noise... and two guys climbed out using a bright orange construction type ladder. I thought they were workers... but they weren't. I watched them use the ladder twice to get back to the main road. Interesting. Needless to say, I had no ladder, so I didn't go in, but here's my point.

Guard dogs.

Yup.

I don't run faster than a rot or a pit bull, so I just drove up to the newly (well within the last couple of years) renovated house that is so visible from the Baker to see what's up with it. Not a lot. It's pretty... pretty empty, too. But it's nice! It has a parking lot, which I was confused about... but the place was empty.

I also noticed a huge For Sale sign in front of the Baker. Is that new?

I would also like to add how surprised I was to see how much is being built around old Fort Wolters. Who would have thought?

i saw that sign, i wonder what they're asking.

also remember that pool at Wolters by the hospital? last time i was there they had bulldozed the pool house and used it to fill in the pool. i wonder why they did that.

and the first time i was there they had put new roofs on some of the abandoned barracks but then they sat untouched for about two years

I bet if we get enough explorers together, we can buy it. It's the Baker Hotel and 'Surrounding properties'.

As far as the pool goes, maybe it's a MAJOR liability issue to have an open pool. There are houses around there now, so maybe they have a concern for kids or something... not that the rest of the place is a hospital visit waiting to happen (for a kid.. and no pun intended.)

The sign looks somewhat newer... Doesn't look like it has footprints on it from people walking over it before they put it back up again, ya know? I was also surprised at how boarded up the place is. I remember you used to be able to look into the windows easily.. now there are none to look through at all. They're all boards!
