I found an abandoned house in Winter of 2005, I went in, was chased out by a squirrel. I continued to do houses without knowing that other people did it also.

Then I found Infiltration while doing searches on abandoned subway stations, then UER.

First meet was Dec 2005, we went to Hearn.

I was hooked.

I guess I started exploring things when I was a kid with my best friend. We used to ride our bikes all over Port Melbourne and go into some of the abandoned factories etc, because to us they seemed creepy and we thought we were brave for going in them. Our most daring thing we did was climb halfway up an absolutely massive power pylon (anyone from Melbourne here will know the huge red and white pylons I am talking about on the banks of the Yarra river) the pylons are about 20 stories high and we got halfway up mass of catwalks and enclosed ladders. My mate then chickened out on me cause he thought the cops might see us, so we climbed back down again (note to self go back and climb it properly and take photos this time!).
It wasn't until this year that I started to get back into UE again. Went into some drains and was hooked hopelessly. It was then that myself and man_underground (who I knew from another forum) decided to start up a group on Flickr called M.C.D.P or Melbourne city drain painters a light painting photography group. Our group took off quickly and now he have a terrific small group who meet up once a week to explore and take photos.
Here is our group if anyone is interested in what we do.

Am hoping that in the future I get to visit the UK and go into London's famous sewers as well as many other places.

I was conned into going to Bennett College one night with a bunch of friends. Being the 14 year old's we were.. We all pussied out. I came back to it during the day with one other friend and once I was inside I could not stop exploring. I still go there every once in awhile to see how she's holding up, or lack of..

I didn't "find out" about it - it was something I'd been doing for a number of years. It was only this year when I discovered this website that there was a name attached to it for me. Until that point a few months ago, I had just referred to it as "a thing for abandoned buildings...I dunno, if I see one I want to check it out and take some pictures..."

It wasn't something I "found out about" and then took it up as a hobby. It's just been something I've done since I was able to wander around by myself, and went up from there when I got my license.

as a kid i went into an abandoned house in my neighborhood, because my friend said that the lady who lived there was probably dead inside and i need to check it out. i ended up taking so long(exploring) inside, my friend had ran away to get help(from our other stupid friends) thinking the lady had caught and killed me.

When I was younger and meant to be in class my friends and I would hang out in the stormwater drains near the Lakes park, houses still under construction or on the roof of the community sports centre (anywhere parents and teachers couldn't find us). Wagging school, 'urbexing' and painting were a normal pastime for us.
After I left school, I urbexed to find cool graff and to escape stress. Then, one day the beauty of the buildings started overwhelming the graffiti. I met somebody through a work friend and discovered they do the same thing as me and that's when I discovered the technical term for what I'd been doing.

I had a crush on a girl who said it would be cool to go into this local abandoned building. So I started doing research and found UE. Before I actually went in there with her, I had read Access All Areas and spent many, many hours researching UE and that particular building online.

Mind you, I did do a few UE-esque things before that. Did an abandoned ("haunted") house with some older (high) teenagers when I was about 13...and explored the tunnels under a large active astronomy research facility built during the cold war. That last one was nowhere near as ninja as it sounds though. I had legit access to the buildings; just not the tunnels.

I started when i was real young. My friend moved out of his house so i went over and climbed through the window. I waked around inside then climbed up to the roof for a better view of the neighborhood. Not until last month, when i met up with the rochester crew, did i even know there was a name for this or other people who did it.

I don't even remember this anymore, but apparently when I first learned to ride a bike, I took off down the road & into an abandoned winery at the end of the block - my mom was freaked & couldn't find me for a little while. Or so she always tells me. It's just in my blood. lol Anyway, I've been fascinated with exploring abandoned/forgotten places for as long as I can remember. I've always lived in rural areas (until very recently, anyway) so I was always into old derelict farms & stuff like that. I see all these urban settings you guys post in here & get jealous at how much potential you have, so close to home. heh But then again, I tend to favour out-of-the-way places anyway - having a desolate rural backdrop takes the cake IMO. Only problem is everything is far away, unlike in the city.

Cheers. :]

It must be a disorder i guess. Looking back ive always been exploring things, just getting progressively more daring since i was a kid. I remember WANTING to exploring things but not being allowed too. i think the first abandoned building i explored was this old barn by my moms house, it was filled with dead cats ( yeesh!)
I didnt know anything "formal" exploration up until this summer, when i was out of school and was suddenly bored, i spent my days looking around and then i found a drain to snoop in. and then progressively found more and more things to look around in. I think the major turning point for me was when i went into a nice local " beer factory which shall not be named..." and was fascinated by the hunks of machinery and roof access of course so i looked up " st paul urban exploration" on google, and found action squads site. IT was a real eye opener. ive been at it ever since. Sometime after that my partner in NOTCRIME found this forum and thats that!

I always liked checking out old buildings and cemeteries, but I never actually knew it was called urban exploring, until I found this site.

I found out about Urban Exploration through one of my friends in high school after he showed my Opacity, which immediately grabbed my attention. I was looking out for any places that I could go and photograph on my own ever since. However I got more into it after my freshman year roommate Dynastar666 showed me UER, and the rest just unfolded.

A few years ago, I had just discovered the wonders of the internet, and I happened upon Infiltration, I think through stumbleupon. I also went to deviantart alot (not just for the nudes), and started to enjoy photos of abandonments. But why live vicariously through someone else's pictures, when I could do it myself? I googled like a madman to find out places nearby (Not having a license blows), and ended up here. I lurked for a while, and made this account to read the DB. Which wasn't very helpful to me after all, I ended up looking for my own local stuff anyway.

[I forgot that I had an account until today when I tried to register and found my username already taken...]

And that's how I ended up where I am now.

I've always had a fascination about abandoned structures.

But, I guess it would start with popular "haunted" locations around my area.

I would say it started with ghost hunting, I've been doing it since I was 12, with my older cousins/friends. I'm 19 now, so I'd say I have about 7 years experience.

Since then I've been to different places, but I've yet to get into anything "big". Norwich in Connecticut is what I have been wanting to go for the longest time.

Recently I have been to the Ladd center in Rhode Island earlier this year.

I haven't been doing any urbex recently, working and what not. anywho I'd love to do something in the near future.
