Australia - Brisbane / Gold coast: Abandoned buildings

Is anyone on the Gold / Sunshine coast or Brisbane area interested in meeting up to discuss a possible outing? Im new to the area and I would love to do some exploring. What interests me most is abandoned buildings but they are a bit hard to come by, at least on my preliminary scouting. If you're out there, speak up!

If you're interested in a gutted building that was once a medical centre, take a look on the coast side of the Gold Coast Highway in Burleigh Heads for a two-storey blue-glass building with holes smashed in it. There's not much left of the place, but it's tough to find much abandoned on the coast that isn't trashed.

Just watch your feet for syringes, and keep an eye out for whoever leaves them there

These are sick, I really like the lighting. The location looks like it was a ton of fun. Wish I could go abroad for some exploration. Keep it up.

Awesome lighting on those shots! That description sounds awfully familiar; I might've seen it on the way down to Coolangatta.

To the OP: the only abandoned place I've been to on the GC is the OAK Restaurant in Surfers Paradise. Not terribly interesting really, but I suppose it could be worth it if you're local and provided you can get further in than I did (which wasn't very far at all). Keep in mind its location - along the odd Remembrance Drive/Gold Coast Highway *thing*. The one that they built to replace the GC Highway's Surfers stretch. I still don't know what it's called... anyway, also note the alarms, and the location of the police station (a few k's up the road).

You could also investigate one of the many apartment building rooftops. I know for a fact that the older ones (80's era) don't have the blindingly brilliant swipecard access barriers of the new developments. Of course, they also tend to have locks (something about getting sued for people falling/jumping off...) which have turned me back, but you may have better luck, particularly if they're undergoing renos.

Sadly the Gold Coast tends to be even more efficient at development than Brisbane - just take a look at the number of places you can stay, play, wine and dine on the 'coast, and you'll see what I mean.
