Any recommendations for Berlin?

Hi,

Just joined this site and would really appreciate any ideas on great locations in Berlin. I've already checked out the children' hospital in Weissensee, Spree Park and Teufelsberg and I'm aware of Beelitz but I'm convinced there's a lot more to see in this city!

Any input would be great.

Danke!

Hello Kazanian!

Berlin must really be great for exploring. I do have a long list here for a good trip, but no time until november or later.
I'd try to visit "Heilanstalten Berlin-Buch", a big particularly active hospital-area. Mostly abandoned as it seems.
Maybe also "Rewatex" might be interesting, but it seems to be mostly empty, nothing left of its former use as a big laundry service (Stammbetrieb Kombinat Rewatex). Near Spreepark is aso an abandoned brewery which looks very interesting to me. Much material is left inside and electricity is still on. Not much graffiti as they say, but maybe homeless with aggressive dogs.
Or you go to the "Stralau", but i think, this would be senseless spent time...

Greetings from Dresden!

Indeed...and that's a wonderful thing.

Good luck with your quest for Berlin locations. Personally, I'd just about sell my mother to shoot Beelitz!

Beelitz was really great, although most of the buildings were closed when we visited the first time, about one year ago. But as they say, the buildings derelict very fast, not only because they're not maintained. As we visited we thought, the half population of Berlin was there. The coolest visitors we saw were two older men with grandma in the wheelchair going towards the surgery building. So come early in the morning...
Something i'd like to visit there are the steam tunnels. Some say, it's possible to wander underground to the closed buildings. I wanted to try last year, but my father-in-law didn't have the right footwear, and there is much garbage down there.
Apropos selling one's mother... I'd sell mine for a round trip of abandonments around North America. Maybe I'll try to win the lottery next time...

I definitely want to take a trip to Beelitz... it kinda has to be done. But I've heard to same thing about there always being loads of people there and that puts me off going a bit... I'm sure there are lots of other places that are just as interesting but not as busy or popular as Beelitz and they pique my curiosity more. In particular I'd love to find somewhere that's not so vandalised and still has some of the fixtures and fittings ... that would be awesome!

Just a little update if anyone is interested in Teufelsberg. Although it has been bought by David Lynch and is being used as a film and photographic set it IS still possible to get in... as long as you're not unlucky enough to pick a day when a huge film crew is up there filming.... as I was, Bah!
