Ran into scrappers once, but they were more scared then we were.

Some time ago, we were in a large warehouse and another team would meet us there, and I heard people scuffle around the building. So I looked outside to check if they were it, but they weren't. However, they kept walking around, clearly intending to go into the building.

Our partners showed up trough another entrance, and we were exploring said warehouse, when suddenly the couple I had seen was inside too, coming to us and asking "hello, We wanted to take some pictures there in the corner, it's for an art project. However, it's kind of fetish, so we asked, do you mind?" - clearly we didn't mind! However, I didn't look and later they were gone, but they had been taking pictures (and more?) in the absolutely dirtiest (poo, condoms) part of the warehouse, which was in view nothing different than other, more (dry or just mud) clean parts of the warehouse...

I crawled into a building through a hole in a wooden board only to find myself in a pile of trash. Upon closer examination the trash was mostly alcohol swabs and syringes. There was also a duffel bag nearby but I didn't go through it.

Not exactly a fun feeling.. Last week something similar happened to me, stepping over a pile of trash and I look down to see that there were a handful needles with in a couple inches of my shoe. A couple of them were pointing upwards towards me, and my shoes wouldn't have stopped them from going right through if I was a couple inches to either side. Scared the shit out of me, took me a few minutes to check out every square inch of space around me for a good place to step. Stupid call on my part, because I later realized that I had run into these two guys shooting up at this spot a month before. Weren't the violent type, but the fact that they're leaving their uncapped needles out just off a trail where people walk really disgusts me.

I once found a two foot ball of barbed wire hanging from the roof at head height, was dark and we weren't using torches so I came quite close to finding it with my face

*Trio of 14 y.o. girls getting into the same abandoned school as us and screaming at pedestrians out the windows getting the cops called. Cops get the the girls and of course never see the 7 of us explorers ninja'ing our way out.

* Two or three 18 y.o. guys climbing up the outside of the building we were in. It was abandoned, but on an active factory complex. Along with not being able to climb an additional wall to get inside like we did, they got the cops called and we had an hour police stand-off with cops posted outside of each entrance. They got bored after an hour and left.

*Random run-in's with homeless and other (non-getting the cops called) people is always fun.

I was alone exploring some factory complex a few weeks ago and turned the corner to find a huge fox staring at me from about 15 feet away. I stopped dead in my tracks and slowly backed out the door I had walked in from.

So I went around to the other side of the room and ran in a different door with my cell phone video recording to try to get a shot of him. He was too quick and ran out the other door before I could get a good video. Blast!

My only run-in with scrappers was in Buffalo at some factory... They were just hanging out cutting the pipes out of the floor and ceiling and loading up a pickup truck. They actually told us that they owned the place, lol. We did our thing and they left us alone.

There was a time i was introducing a childhood friend to a location i had visited several times.I had shown him around most of the place and we were on our way out when upon reaching the stairwell that lead to the first floor, a pigeon shot out of a hole near the wall almost hitting me in the face and then smashed through the window pane of a nearby window. Needless to say we left as fast as possible. A few weeks later we went back to the location to find that the window had two panes in it and the pigeon had only taken out the first pane. We didnt see a dead pigeon nearby, i wonder what happened to it.

There was one point where, while exploring a building, I ran into a broom on the third floor of the building, which had in it:
New carpet, new light fixture, new paint on the walls and ceiling, and a very new-looking bed set up in the corner...

I didn't stay much longer :x

i thought about just posting a summary of the plot of "No Country for Old Men", with me as the main character, to see if anyone would notice, but i'll treat this topic seriously

in recent years, i do much of my exploring at night and usually skip the sites easily accessible to your common crackhead -- more often than not, the worthiness of a site is in reverse proportion to how accessible it is.

still, years ago, i watched from a 2nd floor interior window as one of the most inarticulate gang initiation rituals played out on the warehouse floor below me:

Leader: 'so, uh, dog this means that u blood to us, like, i mean, for life yo'
(mutters of agreement and peacock-like posturing from the surrounding gang)
Initiate: 'ya dog i get that, like, for life and whatever, my blood, uh, fo yo's'....

Haha that's hilarious and a bit frightening too. Interesting point about accessability. Honestly I've been able to walk right into most of my favorite locations with no trouble at all and there have been many times where I'd bust my ass trying to get to another that would be completely gutted and not worth the trouble.

yeah, i probably over-generalized it's perhaps more applicable to downtown-type locations where there's a large homeless population, in the cities i've lived i've usually lived downtown and just explored those neighborhoods the most.

once checked out a burnt out farmhouse (it looked cooler from the road) with my sister and we found a HUGE pile of animal parts and carcasses. mainly deer hooves/legs, skulls and spines. along with the decapitated corpse of a cow.

we left quickly.

The first time I explored one building, I had no Idea I had walked into a room that had a hobo hiding behind the door. He stayed hidden while I set up my tripod and started to take a picture, then whispered "Yer not a cop ar'ye?" I jumped 3 feet straight up!

Another time, I was poking around behind a factory when I suddenly saw a flash and heard a camera shutter, then a loudspeaker somewhere said "Attention, your picture has just been taken and WILL be used to prosecute you. Leave the area IMMEDIATELY." I ran! Then I ran back and grabbed my bike!

But the strangest thing I have found yet was in a set of apartment buildings. They were side by side, and the left one had nothing unusual. But in the next apartment, the first floor was filled with garbage bags, the second floor had a mattress with a handcuff on it, and the entire third floor was filled with pigeon poop and carcasses. In the room facing the street, the shit and dead birds were piled over a foot deep, and someone had taken the time to set up a chair on one of the shit piles!

I once stumbled upon an enormous pile of syringes. Medical or otherwise I couldn't tell, as I was about 9 years old at the time. But I knew to stay the hell away, haha.

One time I was on top of a roof and some kids in a nearby parking lot (about 12 years old) asked how I got up there. I told them to look around and try and find an entrance but I think they got scared, as it was very dark in there.

I was at another location with a large active factory on the way towards it. As I was exiting I passed by a guy with a construction helmet who gave me a strange look, pulled out his walkie talkie and said "uhh... I think there's some kids here...". Of course, no security showed up.

Nothing too great, but I somehow remember them all

While looking through a abandoned motel me and my friends walked into a room that had been made up, there were cans of food, bedding and everything. It makes me uneasy running into things like that, I always think someone is going to pop out to scare us away or something.
