| | | yes it was...aparently Six flags is going out of business...or so the rumor has it. Their website has the same thing up it had since right after the storm and i have heard from multiple friends in atlanta that they are about belly up as a company. either way the park was flooded and from what has been posted in UER forums it is fully abandoned. I guess the NOPD have better things to do in the nation's murder capital than patrol abandoned theme parks... JONO already got the "water park" joke in and I laughed for a full half hour....still chuckling at how quick that was so...anyways...it wasn't much of a UE, but I am learning and it will be fun for my next excursion...hopefully going to Ensley works with a fellow UE from Birmingham this weekend or next

Yeah, when we lived there, NOPD had better things to do than show up when we called them to report bullets flying into one of our windows one night...after two more calls, we finally just left a note for them on the door. So yeah, abandoned theme parks may be lower on their priority list.

| | | Six Flags (insider info) will probably go under. BUT. The likelihood of a large theme park being abandoned vs being bought up by another local company and being brought back into operation is small. Unless extenuating circumstances (i.e. Hurricane Katrina) were to occur even if SF goes under it will likely be bought and re-opened. Before SFNE was Six Flags (which it hasn't even been "Six Flags" for a decade) it was known as "Riverside Park" for over a century. Honestly Six Flags sucks; the original Riverside was better. These parks make money. Lots of money. It's shitty executive management and ownership that is driving it under.

Mix a bag of trail mix, a can of cayenne pepper, and 100% pure capsaicin extract.

| | | Posted by WEKurtz Yea, you did the right thing, particularly considering the wife. Here in MA you can't even buy pepper spray without a FIREARMS PERMIT, no shit. I carry one on explorations just in case, but can ditch it pretty quick if need be. Another way to remain safe on UE trips is to try to keep yourself in good physical condition and travel light. I've yet to meet a security guard who could maintain the chase for more than a 1/4 mile or so, nevermind vaulting over low fences.

| | | Six Flags, the company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June. I remember, because it was the day my daughter went with her friends -- I called her up and told her that it was her fault. I think it still remains to be seen whether the "entertainment destination" concept can survive. Between video games, the Internet, and Peak Oil, it may be the next in a long line of concepts that have reached the end of their lives. It may even be that the whole idea of "going somewhere" may become passe'. * Staying at home tilling the fields * Health resorts like Mineral Wells (see also: Baker Hotel) * Family resorts like the one in Dirty Dancing * Theme parks like DisneyWhatever and Six Flags * Staying at home playing video games
