| | | High School Roof < on 7/22/2009 5:17 AM >
| | | I live literally down the street from a private High School. The campus is rather big and I was going to try and get on the roof and get a better view if not some pictures of the city of Portland, Maine (which is rather beautiful at night). Me and a friend took a harmless stroll around the campus looking for the best place for roof access or to get onto an awning and go from there. There is a one spot that is probably going to be out best bet. It's an entrance awning made of stone that is the lowest point of the roof. There is some kind of metal box about 3 or 4 feet from the awning that maybe one person could climb up on, but from there it is a far jump to the ledge and from there a person needs some pretty serious upper body strength to get up on the awning. There is also a few pipes and electrical boxes across the path from the metal box, one of which is a security box, but those too are far away from the awning and a pretty physical feat would be require to get access to the awning. I tried to hoist my smaller friend up simply from the ground, but he has shitty balance and is not very strong for an 18 year old. I don't think there is any security on site, and police patrols into the campus are rare as a lot of people walk dogs through there in the summer. I guess now I need to ask someone if they know the best way onto the roof without lugging a huge ladder or other heavy equipment with us? I'll try and get some photos of the awning and other landmarks around it if I need to, but I really want to get up on there and get some pictures of the cityscape.
Thanks for the help! I wanted to get a few pictures like this only I would be across the bay to the right and up higher.

| | | Try to find something inconspicuous around the school that you could set against the wall and could give you a boost up to the roof. Look for pallets, trashcans, chairs, or picnic tables. Anything that looks like it belongs there and can be pushed against the wall so that you can grab onto something and pull yourself up onto the roof. For example… Last weekend I was ueing an abandoned high school. I could not find an entrance so I decided to check the roof. With the help of my friend, we found a plastic trashcan. He held it steady while I climbed on it and grabbed onto a pipe on the roof and pulled myself up. WU entry!

| | | Well, my buddy finally got on the roof. It turns out he is just a little bit hesitant in almost everything. All it took was for me to boost him a little higher and he could get his abdomen onto the awning and then just squirm his little legs on top. From there it was a short hop onto another roof and then a small ladder climb to the highest point. Turns out that the High School isn't that great to look out over, so we didn't take any photo's but it was still fun. And now we know that we can get up there easily (at least my friend can). Thanks for the advice guys!

| | | Yeah, I've lived on Wellwood Rd (near the lacrosse field) my whole life. You would think that a lot of cop cars would go there, but there isn't that much if you go at the right time. I think there should be because there is constantly kids in the parking lot drinking and doing drugs (nice spot). But at like 9:00pm to 10:00pm there isn't a lot of police presence. They defiantly don't patrol campus. Plus our access point was behind the front of the school. Also, once on top of the awning, all you need to do is duck and lay down until your on the highest point if a cop comes and he can't and won't find you. And during the summer no one is ever at the school unless the summer camp is in session. If you enter at the right point and don't get caught climbing up there you're all set. And I don't mean to sound like I know more then you, Neptune, you're obviously far more experienced then I am, it's just that like I said; I know the Cheverus area very very well. Thanks for helping me out, I thought I would never find someone from Maine that was a frequent/full member, haha.

| | | Well if you don't want to use a ladder, theres always the option to go from the inside, usually, roof access are pretty convenient inside a building, but still, the building has to be accessible if you want to find the roof entry. If the building seems to have a pretty nice view, asking permission might just do it.
