| | | I just wanted to say that yeah, it's kind like beating a dead horse around here but there are few people who bring it up that are willing to do as much foot work as you. It seems most of the people who bring it up do so to ask "Where is this?" or "Has anyone been in the tunnels?". That gets old but the fact that you actually went out, took some pictures and shared them with us is a good thing. It's funny how people keep finding those terrible pictures I took so long ago.

| | | Hey, just noticed this while playing with Microsoft Maps. Looks like a large water leak perhaps? Or it might just be stained concrete, but I don't remember it.

I didnt think those maps could zoom in that close. Also, I dont recall there being a fence around the facility like the one seen in this photo.

| | | Posted by backslider26 2x, Yeah I guess I thought that pic of the cylinderical structure you posted was still standing. Maypearl, no as 2x clarified its gone. On the pics I posted you asked if I got in, not really. The building itself was well secured. The opening for the stairs is outside and yes I got in there but the next door inside was in 4 feet of stagnet water. I'm going back (yet again) this weekend to do a final trip to this area, maybe next week. There is one building at the mag lab I haven't been able to get into so my plans are getting into said buildings and doing a bit of wading to see what's behind half submerged door. One observation, I noted the only two decently built roads in this town(not that I've seen the entire town) both had to do with the SCC facility. The East campus road and the road on the west side were very well built and of different material than the rest of this town. I kinda didn't want to post all this, seems everytime someone brings up this place its like beating a dead horse, so to the ones that's been there done that, I apologize, but I'm still very excited over going here. My next trip should be my last (gas is killing me) to this place, but honestly I've lurked here for years and it was Revs photos I stumbled across a long time ago that has me still coming back for more. Also seeing that I've missed a lot of other places (lone star brewery) by waiting too long I feel I need to get a look at a bunch of other places before their time runs out.
|
Cool. I look foward to pictures of your next trip out if you are able to get them.

By way of your user name, I would assume you live in Maypearl. But we all know what assumption does, so tell me, if you live there how come you haven't gone to these places?

| | | Perhaps it was something to do with the fire suppression system or for some reason someone turned on water to the facility just as that picture was taken. There's no cars or anything on the maps, but it surely looks like water running out of the building. It looks like the county moved some stuff around inside where they were storing stuff, or more likely, people digging through it. I think the county only uses the building as a dump site. On an unrelated note, there was a guy that has an 'every day garage sale' right before the 1446 exit that had some pretty cool junk, old county dispatch equipment and such.

I used to live in Maypearl. I have been out to some of those places but its been a while. I remember that project from when I was a kid and have always been fascinated with it. Pictures of its current condition are somehow even more interesting.

"Install" Microsoft Maps? Is this a new product, or are you just talking about what they now call "Bing" Maps? If it's Bing Maps, there's nothing to install there; it's just a website, but it does offer, in selected areas (usually around large population centers) the "birdseye" view like "link338" posted previously.

the fence only goes around the back part of the property, you can still drive right up to the front

| | | if youre still wondering whats on the other side of that underwater door, its this:
this view is actually from the pit in the south end of the linac building so the submerged door would be that one at the end of the hallway

| | | I think this is SSC thread appropriate: Two atoms are drinking at the bar. Suddenly one says to the other, "I've just lost one of my electrons!"
"Are you sure?" asks the other.
"Yes," replied the first atom. "I'm positive."
