Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity House - Manhattan, KS

First off, I'm fascinated by fraternal organizations, and whenever the possibility to learn more about them comes up, I try to take it.

So, I've known about this building being unused for a couple of years, but hadn't bothered to go check it out yet. Til tonight, anyway. The chapter more or less went under due to low numbers and poor recruiting. On the trip through I found some great bedrooms, evidence of pledge hazing, photos, chapter officer notebooks, and ritual equipment. Unfortunately the main floor was secured in a way that I was ill-equipped to enter, even inside the building itself. I'll go back again when I'm able to get into the main floor of the house. For now there are a couple of sorority houses that are empty for the summer left to explore.

That's pretty cool.. looks like a fun place to explore for sure. I absolutely love old colleges and schools. Hospitals, too!

It's pretty cool. The old bedrooms are a lot of fun. You really see a lot of the character of the people who used to live in them.

Indeed, houses are the best for all the junk that gets left behind, leaving hints about the people that lived there. The 'coffin' is interesting too, thanks for the look!

Coffins are quite common in fraternal organizations' rituals. In many organizations' rituals, a person being initiated symbolically dies and is returned to life as a better or more complete person.

Sorority houses make better active explorations.

Very true. The inactive explore is to make the active explore go easier. ;) (seriously though, I'm in a fraternity, if we don't infiltrate 1 or 2 sororities a year, people think we're gay)
