well im 19. and an adult. but.. i still live in my dads house and he still controls me threatining to kick me out of the house as well as my job as a drafter wich i get paid a crapload more than anything else i can do.

well heres why im saying this. my dad just found me digital camera and looked through the photos and whatnot seeing all of my storm drain explorations.

so he got on to me basicly about what ive been whineing about lately. "you dont know what to do if you run into a hobo they make camps down there!"

I saw a breathing lump under a blanket, what could it be? - 1 hobo - 2 dwarf hobos - 8 racoons - 443 rats - 896 mice or 11 rat kings?

Do whatever you need to to hold on to the job. I don't see another one in your future soon.

hahahahhahaha.

I'm 17, and (luckily) my parents are VERY supportive of this hobby. My dad even got me hooked as a little kid taking me into whitby psych.

As for your problem: as long as your under his roof, you have to play by his rules. Get another memory card, and use one for exploring and one for everything else. at 19, you're old enough to make your own decisions. Put some passwords on your computer too. If your going to lie to him about where you are, always make sure you tell some one else where your going, and dont drain alone.

Sorry, what was that you were saying about forever alone?

yea. but hes been telling me how crazy the world is my whole life. and ive been very sheltered. so ive always thawt hobos were mindless zombies with rusty shanks ready to pounce.

all ide have to really do anyway is run around the next turn and turn off my flash light. i highly doubt a hobo has nightvision..

plus they wouldnt live there with the risk of flash floods..

tell me to conform to society
and tell me to stop exploring..

i say never.

and i cant just be a teen anymore. i need to grow up. and find my own people. and you guys dont really know me outside forums. i know i act like a complete douchbag. but im a very serious but fun person when i explore.

Well, I'm a parent of a 15-year-old daughter, and she comes with me on my explorations. I get wanting to protect your kids, but she learns so much from these trips, it's amazing. History, architecture, respect for property (oddly enough), photography, safety, the odd lesson in first aid, and a sense of adventure and confidence that's turned a quiet, shy, introvert into a leader.

That being said, every situation is different, and only you know yours. My thought, however, is if you're 19, making good money, and having difficulty asserting your adulthood, move out on your own. Get your own place, and you might be surprised the difference it will make.

Don't do it as a confrontational, fuck you, I'm out of here, kind of thing. Do it as a, I want to be an adult and take on my own responsibilities, thing. I think he'll respect that. Begin cutting the ties, or at least stretching them.

Ive convinced my parentals that I'm in a band. So "band practice" is urban exploring with friends.

I've convinced my parents I'm a crack whore.

'Working the street on Sat night' = exploring! They don't suspect a THING.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

After reading your other threads, I must agree.

Face it. Being a dick to your dad and going anyway is just going to either result in you being jobless, homeless, or both. You live under his roof, therefore you abide by his rules. End of story. Your old enough he CAN kick you out...always remember that when making decisions that may affect your residency and/or job position.

So unless your ready to move out on your own and quite possibly find a new job, I'd put a damper on your exploration for now.

Ditto the "hang onto the job" advice. If you're making enough to move out and become a responsible adult, go for it. If not, stay with Dad but you have to accept his rules if you're in his house. That's just how it is. Whichever route you choose, good luck with it.

I agree about the job... but think it would be hilarious if you took a photo of your asshole and left it on the card. Would serve your dad right if he got a nice big eye full of that when he snoops next.

Better yet... get a really super hot girlfriend and take pictures of her tits and post them here. It's the only way to assert your adulthood... just ask Action Satisfaction.

I am a mother of a soon to be 18yo daughter. I am very over protective of her sometimes. I can also be a bit overbearing when it comes to what I think she should be doing with her life. I don't do these things because I want to be a pain in the ass controlling mother. It is out of love and my job as a parent. I know she will do those things that she should not, I am no fool. If I get on her ass about it maybe some of our loud and sometimes emotional conversations will play back in her head. I just want her to think things through when she goes and does what I would rather she did not.

She is not into exploring but she has chewed me more than once after seeing my pics. Mom don't you ever listen to your own advice. You could have been killed doing that or mom leave me some cash for your bail, I am not paying to spring you.

A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind.
