Ever got really sick from urban exploring? Share your horror stories

I went to this abandoned elevator grain and didn't have a respirator on me. Some parts of the building smelled like dead animals, others like actual human feces. And there was a lot of brown dust being kicked up.
The next morning upon waking up, I had a sore throat and all general muscle aches here and there. It sucked.

Afterwards, I went on Amazon and bought myself a P100 half-face respirator. ;)
But now that summer's coming...it'll get sweaty and uncomfortable

I haven't gotten physically ill, but after crawling around so many dirty sites a kind of "nausea" sets in. The filth of the places permeates everything. It isn’t just dirt, but decay, a putrefaction that feels contagious. As if your soul begins to rot.

I've still got a cough and sore throat from an abandonment I went to about a week ago. Though I don't know if it was really the abandonment or getting caught in the rain afterwards. Either way, being sick sucks.

After exploring a superfund site full of lead, arsenic and methyl-ethyl-bad-shit I felt pretty sick for a few days.

I shoot photos.

Whenever I go near an abandoned neighbourhood, I start to wheeze from all the particles in the air. It's almost become the UE version of a spidey-sense, but still kind of freaks me out. I don't wear respirators because these places are in high-density areas and thousands of people are exposed to the same thing on a daily basis.

Not really aside from minor coughing or dizzyness at some different places, possibly related or unrelated. For the most part this man was built for places off-limits.

Hopefully the Lowe's that replaced it doesn't suffer the same problems.

I had a severe stomach bug and the next day my throat killed, I thought it was from draining the day before but later on I heard that lots of other people had the same thing so luckily it wasn't due to the mold.

There was a boarded door blocking my way in a tunnel, so I pulled the entire frame out of the rotten cement foundation. The amount of dust and asbestos it let loose had me coughing up all sorts of nasty shit and feeling like death for a good week or so.

I got a massive headache after exploring Photech. It didn't manifest until the next day, when I had to drive back to Canada.

Dukes got pretty ill a few years ago after finding the lab at national lead in Tahawus. It lasted a couple of weeks. I think Skelly might remember that. I don't think that Dukes even knew what caused it or what it as all about.

I'm still not sure what caused it.
I didn't drink that much; and nothing that day. I went into two hospitals without a respirator before then. I didn't go anywhere that bad. But I did feel really sick before I passed out that night. It wasn't a nosebleed because I woke up with a horrible metallic-key taste in my mouth and normally if you get a nosebleed in your sleep it'll leave dry blood in your nostrils, which I didn't have. I had a horrible cough for the week after. It might have just been my lack of prior exercise, poor diet, and the rainy raw weather ... I'm thinking I might have caught pneumonia that cleared itself up.

I'm highly allergic to mold and dust so I always have to carry my rescue inhaler just in case. Just this last Saturday I had to use it while exploring. I've gotten a few scrapes and bruises while climbing but nothing too big.

I got a really bad sinus infection after exploring an underground conveyor system in Rankin a few months ago. I was blowing snot rockets for about two weeks afterwards, and I was the only one in our group to get it.

I went into an abandoned theater and had to crawl on the floor underneath asbestos wrapped pipes near the entrance. Not only that but I had not planned very well, wore sandals, and while I had a respirator, the sandals were not smart at all. I had red hives or splotches when I got home. Not sure if that was from pigeon crap in the air (the place was covered in it) or from the asbestos fibers.

You live and learn.
